Macca, I like your method, but one question: with the wiring in the left fairing, how are you able to get the left fairing off? Do you disconnect the wire at the location near the frame first? Or is there "slack" in the wire so the fairing will come off? Or something else?

Thx!

I've left slack, same as BMW did with the indicator

Need Help with USB plug !!

Hello,
After reading this thread a few months back I also went and bought the DROK USB power converter plug. I finally got the BMW repair plug after a 6 week wait and was excited about installing them and using my iphone6 as a GPS without it going dead too quickly. I plugged in the repair plug and temporarily connected the wires as per this thread to the DROK just to make sure it was getting power. Nothing, played around with the wires and still nothing. After a long while of troubleshooting I checked the no'6 fuse which is a 7.5 Amp used for the accessory port and it was blown! ( Confirmed using a Multimeter ). In my haste to troubleshoot I took the 7.5 fuse used for low beam ( also 7.5 A) and plugged that into slot 6. Turn on ignition and again nothing. Just to double check I checked the new fuse in slot 6 and again it was blown!!

I am using the 2 outside wires of the repair plug. What am I doing wrong?

Any help appreciated.

I'm pretty crap when it comes to Electrical work as you have probably gathered :)
What I will do now is replace the fuse and then solder and heat shrink the repair plug wires and USB converter properly as described above before connecting and switching on etc.
Just to confirm it's the 2 outside wires on the repair plug right? Any order they need to connect to the red and black USB wires?

BMW aux part needs to be connected with specific order to USB module. Read in previous page, but here is info again:

bmw part number 83300413585 which has numbers on wires. Connect as follows to wires on USB module.
1 to ground, 3 to V, 2 ignore.

Be sure to replace all blown fuses. And you connect USB module to correct aux plug. There are two plugs on clutch side under the fairing, one is aux, the other is not. See user manual to confirm. This is for 15+ RR.

Thanks z00!!
Got it working today. Didn't even notice the numbers on the wires.
Appreciate your help.

Any one got this working on a HP4?

Got the connector from BMW it only fits on the right side the left side is slightly different, plugged it in and wires 1 and 3 give 11v when switched off and 0.8v when switched on ?

Got the fork as well connected that and phone doesn't charge switch on or off.

I really don't want to tap any Oem wires

See my previous post about using number on BMW plug. Be sure you connected USB module correctly to BMW plug.
On 2nd gen bikes right side (front brake side) is what's available I think.

Well, having a 2014 HP4 and definitely the left side plug is for the 2D fork travel sensor only and the plug on the right side is for aux power supply for USB or Navi and has 3 pins, one for ground and one for either 12V switched off immediately and one for 12V power with a 20s delay. There is a OEM BMW connector available too.
Need more help could not get this to work

Yeah, I think it's a HP4 think, not enough amps or something, got another simpler plan now.

I am with you, kind of, my Garmin stock fused power cable with connectors for audio input and output runs right back to battery. No Canbus worries, no splicing, soldering, etc. The cable runs right up under the tank tunnel. Why is this a strange solution to a specific simple problem, in my case, power for GPS? I am not pushing this on anyone, but I am curious why this is a strange way to solve this need??
Sorry, been following the thread. What do you mean by tank tunnel ? I need to wire my Garmin Zumo 590LM in and want it back to battery as neat and protected as possible. Do you mean remove the shroud adjacent to the tank as some have suggested or lift the tank up and send it over the engine ???

TIA Vindy.

why not wire it to the 12v auxiliary plug?

The unit comes with a really (in my mind) badly thought out cable to feed the cradle with various tails which I want to retain at seat/tank end. Yes I could buy the adapter but battery is what Im going with. I want to keep it simple.

I've fitted it now and for the purposes of helping anyone else I ran the sat nav wiring under the cutout in the ECU cover and then through the little gap at the front to take the cabling down the left side of the bike back to the battery. Wiring sits nicely under the left side trim panel and emerges into the under seat compartment where I cable tied it to the left side subframe member. There was no need to lift the tank and wiring cant be seen at all. The moulded part of the Zumo lead sits between the tank and frame rail and the spare unused input outputs can be tucked into the little bit of spare space in front of the right side of the battery behind the coding plug. The USB part of the loom is very long so I have taken it right to the back of the bike under the rear seat cowl. Taking it down the right side would have been quite tricky to get the wiring up under the seat as there is not much room.

Only problem now is the ball mount keeps coming loose.....!!

Regards, Vindy.
