My Woolich tune for 2024 S1000RR

Only engine mod is removal of stock exhaust and exhaust valve. This is a simple street tune. All it does is restore full power from the factory/EPA limitations and reduce the high engine temperatures. Perform at your own risk. I bear no responsibility for anyone that does their own tuning. As you can see from the images, the bike is very restricted from factory. Suck it, Bren.

Ok let's over load everyone with some AFR data. Now keep in mind I did NOT alter the Fuel Maps Editor tables, I only tweaked the Closed Loop Target AFR. Please note the tabs at the top for table you are looking at, and tables you wish too compare. I don't mind the low 14.'s but the 15s I will alter. The overly rich areas I will pull some out of but not if I don't have adequate data counts in those areas, or if look like a fluke. As you notice on the right hand column, you can see how many times it measured that cells AFR and what the conditions were during those reads (see the stored values in the lower right hand corner)

Did you add a new bung for the ZT3? It looks like you closed off the 4 stock O2 sensors from your pics. Was the ECU getting O2 feedback for Closed-loop AFR? Or was it really running in open (static) map mode?

I'd be curious to see the 4 stock O2s with the ZT3 downstream to make sure all 5 sensors (especially the 3 widebands) are returning the values we're expecting/hoping for.

It seems the stock ECU mapping is already pretty rich at high RPMs from the factory.

For sure we need more samples for the high RPM/throttle cells.

Oh yeah this is how I decided to install the wideband and log box. The purple and white wires are not needed unless you are trying to mimic the factory 02 signal. I placed a relay beside the ZT3 box tied into the license plate light as a 12v signal switched source, but the battery connection is shared via the battery tender connection, 1 less net new wire to add and route.
IF you decide to use the high speed data harness supplied with the Woolich, the 2 wire connection is not used. Woolich told me it is for an upcoming addition that has not come to fruition yet.

Wow, I'm loving this post. Help me get caught up.

Which items do I need to order from Woolrich for 2023 model? It looks like:

  • BMW Bench Harness Type 2 (BMW-BH2) [ $152 ]
  • 2019-2024 BMW S100RR Stock Bin File Definition (one purchase required per ECU) [ $105 ]
  • BMW Harness Type 3 (BMW-H3) [ $42 ]
  • Kungber DC Power Supply 30V/10A from Amazon [ ASIN: B08DJ1FDXV ] [ $59.99 ]

Am I missing anything? Are there recommendations on extension harnesses or additional wiring? I'm still worried about warranty stuff (early 2023 model), but this thread has my heart racing! The bike keeps getting better each ride and I'm ready to get rid of those dead spots.

By the by if you guys are running any header with a slip fit crossover behind the oil pan, be observant. I had a small leak on my Akrapovic optional crossover connection, and since these bikes run widebands we all know what any exhaust leak can cause. I bought some
AKIHISA T-Bolt Hose Clamps,304 Stainless Steel Heavy Duty Adjustable Tube Clamps (32-35mm 4pack)
From Amazon and got it sealed up. I have a belly pan cover coming to cover that ugly up, but it's function over form for now.

I was checking to make sure the O2's crush washers weren't leaking and that's when I felt it. Then I took some cat hair (thanks for the sacrifice Dini lol) in needle nose plyers and moved it around until I could identify the source. The O2's were fine on both sides and just the crossover was leaking.
I've always been a bit leery of these slip fit connections. Especially when there isn't something mechanical to force a tight fit. In this case the lack of the springs. I'll have to go check mine to see if it's leaking. I also wonder if using anti-seize on the joints will help in sealing off the joints. I applied some on each slip fit joint more to help me take apart the exhaust in the future if I need to.

Animals were harmed in the making of this diagnosis.

I don't know what I've done positive, but I somehow convinced the wife to allow me to pick up this tuner (combo Christmas and birthday gift to myself.)

Now I'm scared again about warranty issues. I have an early 2023 model. I would kick myself if I had any warranty issues and BMW refused to touch the bike simply because they saw the flash counter was incremented.

* UPDATE *

Just wanted to give some THANKS to jasonisdn for helping me to get my Woolich Racing tune up and going. I was able to get the ECU flashed and was able to test it a bit on the chilly ride into work this morning.

I appreciate that people aren't just nobodys on the forum, but they're real people with real interests that extend beyond the forum.

Thank you again! -Sam

Seems Woolich is adding more functions. I modified a copy of a base file that I have, and activated the Disable Torque Limiter. Let's see if it kills the ETV limits without causing an error code, and without having to modify the other tables. I am not touching knock parameters, hell no.
P.S.
No, it does not eliminate the ETV factory issues in 2nd. So I'm not sure what Woolich is trying to imply or accomplish with it.

I found this email ( https://www.woolichracing.com/Register.aspx ) list you can subscribe to for a notification of updates, so I did. I also filed a ticket asking what the 'Disable Torque Limiter' function is and that I did try it on a stock file and didn't notice any change in the stock ETV behavior.
P.S. I never did receive a verification email, so I could be added to the list for update notices.

Here is the back and forth.... I give up for now.
Hello,

I noticed a new option/box under Advanced Options I believe. It is called "Disable Torque Limiter". I used one of my stock files and enabled that box, but the 2nd gear ETV limit was still present on my test ride. Can you give me some insight on what the functionality or purpose of that box is and what it should be doing?

Hi JASON,

There are some differences between supported capabilities for part numbers within the same definition, what part number are you using please?

Hi JASON,

I believe the 'Disable Torque Limiter' was added recently due to a customer finding that modifications to the 'ETV - Requested Torque' were not able to remove some observed restrictions. I also noted that this is not available for every model so I have asked my colleagues if they have some more info which I will share when I receive.

Cylinder AFR is used to set up AutoTune, especially if you only tuning by cylinder (ie. not unifying fuel maps). If you only have one AFR sensor then it will always be AFR1 but some models support 2 wideband O2 sensors in which case you might have cylinders 1 and 2 on sensor 1 and 3 and 4 on AFR2.

Are you tuning cylinders individually?

Hi JASON,

In addition to my last response, the 'Disable Torque Limiter' option was added for usa models that are restricted in first few gears.

My colleague in the UK has some experience with these models, I will assign this ticket to him and see if he can assist.

No sir, I am just using the Auto Tune with the single wideband that I purchased for Woolich. I just noticed that it was set like that by default. Should I put AFR 1 on cylinder 2, so it matches the rest of the cylinders?

Hi Jason, disable Torque Limiters is something added to help with allowing the US bikes to be altered high in the rpm and speed ranges which is different to the 2nd gear limitation.

If go to "Other Maps" then "Gear Based Torque Threshold" you will see 1st and 2nd Gear are limited in that map.

Please let me know if that does not help.

Kind Regards

Rich

Thank you for the information Rich.

Does activating the 'Disable Torque Limiter' perform the task of removing those restrictions higher up in the RPMs automatically or does it open a new table that I haven't noticed yet?
Also I was under the impression that the table 'Other Maps' / 'ETV Limit-Gear' was the limitations per gear for the ETV.

Hi Jason, the issue is one table does not control all nut as I understand it the new Threshold Map is "Global" so across all modes.

Then you change each mode with the previous maps we had.

"Disable Torque Limiters" means that when you make changes to al lot of other maps even including the newly added knock control maps theory are no longer pulled back as they were before.

These bikes are way over complicated but the main problem in the US is your fuel is poor quality compared to here in Europe so all sorts of things we don't suffer with affect you there.
