Can anyone with a BMW HP Datalogger help?

I bought a data logger off the forum and fitted today in prep for coming track event.

It is not performing as expected from the install details I have found. It just sits there with a solid blue LED.

If I don't plug in the USB key the LED is un-lit. Plug the USB key in and the LED illuminates and stays on, makes no difference if the ignition is on or off.

My S1000rr is a 2015 model and the data logger was new un-used but in an opened package.

I have tried downloading the latest software for the PC and reformatted the USB key, tried another USB key, that's all I can think of to try.

Gutted.

Thanks for the link, yes I have tried using a clean formatted fat32 USB key in the logger, tried using the 2D software to format the USB key... The logger does not write anything to an empty clean formatted fat32 USB key. As soon as I plug the stick in the LED goes on hard and stays on for 5 seconds after I pull the stick, ignition on or off make no difference?

Thanks for the suggestions AndyHP4.
I couldn't resist immediately re-trying.
Formatted an unused USB Key with Prep2DStick
used BMW HP Datalogger software to write model info to the USB stick. (The software is up to date but I only have models up to 2014 to choose from?)
inserted USB key in datalogger
wired data logger into the loom
Turned on key without starting
Datalogger Blue LED came on solid
USB stick red LED flashed for about 5 seconds
Datalogger Blue LED stays illuminated. Turned key off and came in to type this
40 mins elapse, go out to garage, key still off, Blue LED still illuminated solid. Pull USB key from logger
Blue LED goes out after 5 seconds.

Crap. Sorry but I think I have bought a dud.

Thank you both for the advice. Thanks to you I have made some progress.
I had some complexity issues - I downloaded the BMW Demo version of the Data Logger software to play, then installed the licensed version that came on the CD. (I was getting the prompt when doing updates, that no updates available, even though my install did not allow selection of the 2015 model year). I removed both installations and reinstalled the licensed copy.
I also ended up doing a full format (Not quick format) of the USB stick (The cruizer Sandisk that came with the logger) using Prep2DStick.
Then I used the BMW Logger software to write 2015 model file to the USB key.
I installed the logger into the chassis loom with the USB stick installed. Turned the key on, Blue LED came on, and within a minute, settled down to a regular blink, indicating the logger is ready.
I was getting ready to go to work, so I never attached the logger externally, I tucked the logger under the pillion seat and expected no GPS data.
So I'm at work with the software installed and up-to-date, go to import a data file from the USB key and there is none.
I must still be missing a piece of the puzzle?
I set the software to race mode for highest data resolution and set-up an import folder inside the BMW_HP_RaceData folder called import, and set the track type to "not a race track".
You can be sure I'm googling for an answer but I value your input way more!
Cheers!

Success!!
I did fluff about for a couple more trips back and forth to the bike. Following AndyHP4's advice got me to 99%.
At step four in AndyHP4s list, I put the USB stick in the logger and rev'd the bike to 2500 RPM. Switched off, removed USB and installed into the PC. Used the BMW Datalogger software to attempt to open the log from the stick, but that did not work. The software kept finding the demo data folder.
I had created an import folder in the C:\BMW_HP_RaceData\import\.
Checking the USB key I can see three files get created in the 2D-Datarecording folder each time i install the USB key in the Datalogger. One Data file had a file size indicating something had been written.

The last 1% for me came when I used the BMW Data Logger software to (via the Import Log Data tab) use the Change Import Directory button to point the imports at the folder I created. As soon as I did that, (And because I had some data on the USB stick) the BMW Datalogger software started importing data, and went on to open the tiny log file I generated with a couple of throttle blips.

Now the real learning can begin. I want to use the data logger to improve my bike suspension set-up (I have the 2d sensor for the fork) and to improve my riding. My long term hope is I can make a suspension change that I can see how it effects the handling in the data. I am always second guessing by internal g-meter.

Can anyone point me to a good resource for learning about data logging? I have been reading items at datamc.org which lifts the lid on topics but I'm looking to learn more about tuning suspension, and interpreting rider input.

Thanks again AndyHP4, for all the help to get me to this point.

I'm loving the log file already! (of course you don't use these things on the road, but I logged my ride home).
As a complete novice I can see a mistake I made with poor technique, one gear change I pulled the clutch a moment before rolling the throttle closed. I can also spot a bump where the rear wheel loses contact and the RPMs jump, with a spike in Slip% to match. Its nice to see how far over the bike is leaned and how much throttle I use (Bugger all). The RPMs in my default view read from 5K up so I have these nice peaks where I can see power starting to build.

It's day one with some data I can relate to.

I'm surprised how little percentage wise I use the brakes. (And throttle) Its obvious I start applying the rear, then add front brake, build them roughly at the same rate, then feed out the front followed by the rear... Who knew you could visualise what has taken years to learn through falling off?

I'm heading to the track in a couple of weeks. I want to log the bike as it is now, add the performance parts I bought for Christmas and go back and try again. Hopefully I can point out some of the goodness!
