I haven't had any issues with disconnecting the battery. Then again, I've only had it disconnected for an hour or so. I only had to set my time. I know this doesn't help, just my two cents

I'll call my buddy at bmw tomorrow and ask. I figureda lot of you guys have already did this one time or another by now.

 

I've had my battery disconnected over night - no adverse effects.... Just gotta reset the clock...
Also disconnected it for 30 minutes to install a charging port....

 

I've disconnected the battery for about an hour also with no issues. Just time reset.

 

Disconnected the battery for four months during winter layover. There was no electrical service where I stored the bike, so I could not keep the battery on the Battery Tender.

I had no issues when I reinstalled it last Spring, except for setting the clock. I do not know if I affected the service indicator, which, I understand, is supposed to come on at 6000 miles. My indicator did not come on until 6700 miles, but this may be a function of when the dealer reset the indicator after my 600 mile break-in service last year.
