Dainese Aero EVO D1 Race Suit - Review/Recommendation?

I just got it out of the box today.

I'm 6' tall and 200lbs, and as Revzilla's video suggested, I got size 52 (also because they didn't have 54 or greater).

This is my first "real" race suit so take my comments as such.

The suit looks amazing. But Dainese sizes run very small.

Despite Revzilla's recommendation of size 52 for a 6' tall 200lbs rider it is very, very tight. If I were an inch shorter (all around), I believe it would be perfect. Height, legs, arms, inseam and shoulders are constricting. Waist and rear are just perfect. To add to the tightness, one of the buttons (upper right one) won't stay in place due to the stress.

Now, once I sit on the bike, the suite becomes 50% more bearable. Still tight, but I can see myself going on an 1hr long ride with some discomfort.

For the folks out there that have gone through similar sizing issues, here's my question: should I keep it or sell it? Do full leathers stretch more than jackets after months of wear?

Now to the cost:

Got it from Motardinn. Apparently a Spanish online retailer with U.S., New York phone number. A real pain in the ass to purchase since my B of A credit card flag the first transaction because of the amount and the fact that it was overseas. Then I ran into other problems with the retailer which finally were solved. At the end of the transaction I paid $1260 (delivered) for a suit that Revzilla sells for $1650.

NOTE: Revzilla does NOT price match non-authorized retailer and/or overseas business.

I've only tried this suite once but I'm already thinking I should return it or sell it. I have the matching jacket (same size) and was able to keep it since it stretched a little. This suit, however, I doubt it will stretch enough to feel comfortable.

P.S. If anyone is planning to deal with Motardinn, be aware that it may be a bumpy long ride before you get your product at a great discounted price.

It's a good suit, if it isn't too tight and manageable to sit on the bike and crouch, don't bother selling them. Dainese leather is very nice and given that you have protection even at elbows, it's worth it. Dainese leather expands over a period of time.

I just had a similar situation with a Laguna Seca D1 also in size 52. I'm 5'11'' and @185. I could just barely get the suite on without my back protector. I had an issue with the zipper so sent it back to RevZilla and decided to bump up to a 54. I'm glad I did. The suite is still tight, in a good way, but I can already tell it's the much better size for me.

OP - You should return the suit, they simply recommended the wrong size.

I'm a touch under 6ft tall, hover around 190-195 lbs and I wear a size 56 in Dainese suits and I'm comfortable with a back protector on. Never mind an hour, I could wear it all day at the track and it doesn't bother me one bit. You should be in a 56 Euro.

Return it.

I'm 6', about 170lbs without gear. With long limbs. I could not even move in 52.

I bought 104 size, which is 52 long. It makes a huge difference. Not all Dainese suits are offered in long sizes.

54 might fit you better if you don't have long limbs. Keep in mind you need extra room for back protector. Even bigger size if you wear a chest protector. Sounds like 108 would be ideal for you if you stay at 200lbs.

On inside of the suit, there is a measurement in CMs next to wash instructions. Can you take a pic of that and post it? I'm curious how it compares to 104 measurements I have.

What color did you get? Once I see measurements and depending on what you're willing to sell it for I could buy it from you. You can PM me details. I already put 10k miles on my suit, I could use a backup.

Unless you are wearing a cumbersome and cheap back protector that you can replace with a hardy, slimline matching Dainese, Knox, or Forcefield model... Return or sell it.

It sounds like you aren't able to wear one at all.

52 is definitely too small. And a 54 could very well end up too short in the arms and legs, plus the chest may be too small to get a back protector in. If you go to 56 it may be too large in the waist but appropriately sized everywhere else.

z00,

I'd rather sell it than return it; the company is in Spain and shipping time, cost, and their lack of good communication is something I would not be looking forward to.

I've attached a picture of the suit in the original post. Is the black, white, red, blue color scheme.

I'd be willing to sell it to you at cost but being that you are 6' tall also, I don't want you to have the same problem as I have.

And just to clarify, the tightness in my limbs (legs and arms) is around the circumference, not the length. Length is perfect (except inseam) but I wouldn't mind going with a 54.

I will add more pictures today including the inside tab.

Also, I didn't know these suits were this heavy. I was under the impression that if you spend decent money you'd get a good light protective suit, but I guess you can't have your cake and eat too :\

To all,

This is the color scheme I've been waiting for the last year and now that is available size is an issue. Thus selling it's an option I'd like to keep on the table but for now I'll see if I can grow into it; losing 10lbs is feasible too.

On a brighter note: Last night I was doing homework with the suit on and it was starting to feel a little more comfortable.

And thanks for all the comments and advise.

I have a Dainese Trickster suit which is kangaroo hide and it's only 1lb lighter than my Laguna Seca Pro.

You can try wearing the suit in the shower and leave it on until it completely dries. This will help stretch the leather and offer a better fit. Not sure if it will make a huge difference in your case but it should help.

Im 5'11 170lbs and dainese 52 usually fits me pretty well so another vote that you need a 54 and maybe even a size bigger. You can order these from revzilla to try on, and returns only cost $7.45 last time I did it. That right there is worth a slightly higher price imo. Good luck

I'm about the same size do you wear a chest and back protector in the suit or back protector only? Asking because I might get a Dainese Aero C2 suit and I think the 42/52 will fit me best.

Sooooooo.... On Monday I literally just ordered the same suit from motardinn, in a size 54 (I'm 5'11 195). This size fit me perfectly as I went and tried it on at the Dianese store in LA. 52 was impossible and 56 was way to large.

Is there anyway you can go into detail regarding your experience? You have me nervous now. Also, does the suit appear to be authentic?

Spectre1,

Don't take this the wrong way, but you sound like my wife when she found out that I was saving more than $400 on a race suit of this caliber; I had my doubts too, since it was my first big purchase from an overseas company.

This is what I can tell you: It passed my dear wife's OCD & highly critical eye. Suit came in a Tradeinn box, about 4'x2'x1' via DHL. The suit was immaculate, perfect, mint condition. Tabs, stickers and tags were on the suit as if it just came out of the factory. Manuals, documentation and leather conditioner (Dainese brand) were all perfectly packaged. In other words, it was delivered in the same condition my Dianese jacket was delivered through Revzilla.

My only complain with Motardinn is their lack of good communication and experience with U.S. customers. For example, after my credit card was flagged for making an overseas purchase, Motardinn was asking for a copy of my ID. They specifically wanted a passport. I had to inform them that not everyone in the U.S. carries a passport, which they wouldn't understand. They wouldn't accept my DL, military retired ID, or USAF contractor ID. The problem was solved by having BofA call them and assure that this was a legit purchase and customer. The whole ordeal, from the first contact of purchase to delivery, lasted 3 weeks.

Also, be aware the BofA tried to charge me $36 for an overseas transaction which I contested and won.

I'm at work right now, but I'll take more picture today after gym-time.

P.S. 2 Zipper configuration is great for athletic built bodies.

Looks pretty tight, see how it feels in riding position. Looks like you have been wearing it around, a return might not be even an option. Be sure to leave it intact, I have had issues in the past returning stuff that I wore around.

Standing is very tight, riding position (on bike) is tight. Only wore it twice so far. My jacket is 52 and fits like a glove; thought it may be the same with a full race suit, but that is not the case.

(It will probably be in the for sale section on this forum by tomorrow)

Not affiliated with any companies and not trying to hi-Jack this thread but the guys at MotoWheels (one of our supporting vendors) is great to work with. They are located in California and if you join their VIP program for $15 you get unlimited special pricing. I checked around and they were hundreds cheaper than anyone else and happy to answer all my questions. At least that was my experience.
