Funny i was just looking at the same thing. I've gone through avg (seamed ripped within three rides), firstgear (ok but too basic) and scorpion (great pants, some unstitching after a year, but no good air pants). I'm getting the a-10s next week from motorcyclegear.com

 

Those look pretty good but I would prefer something that goes over the boot.

 

I road tested an Aerostich Roadcrafter The left lower leg and knee looked like I had taken a torch to it. Excellent abrasion resistance and hard armor pads. The one big surprise with textiles is that they slide much further than cow. As soon as they start to melt, it's like being on ice. That can work in your favor (less likely to tumble) or it can work against you it you slide into something static. Depends on the nature of the get off.

 

I have the a-10s tex/leather version and they are alright but a bit too aggressive for normal street riding..I'd rather wear my 2pc joe rocket or even one of my 1pc suits.

Honestly as someone who has enough leather to account for a small cow genocide I don't know what the a10s are for? They aren't that cheap...about 35% of the cost of some real protection for your entire body. Also, they are retarded if you cant/dont zip them to the jacket. But I digress.

I was looking for commuting overpants and got the icon overlords in black.

They have some decent knee armor and feel tough enough to last through about 106% of one reasonable crash. I'm not a fan of icon in general but they do have some sensible street gear.

They have some mesh ones as well but I am more than comfortable in the textile ones.

 

Thanks for your honest review. Right along what I was thinking for the last two weeks. Seems that the sizing on these pants is going to be a hit or miss, the STG video seems to sum it up best. Very pricey for textile/leather combo.

Regarding not zipping, would the rear of the pant be "too low" to keep your shirt tucked in? I have different brands of jackets and we all know the nightmare that manufacturers give us by all using different zipper patterns...

I also feel the same way about Icon gear, though their stuff looks comfortable.

 

Thanks, now you have me looking at the Icon Overlord Leather and Mesh... I just need something for the streets that has really good airflow but isn't 100% mesh (summer temps here are about 80-100); my perforated leather pants get too hot to cruise around town. A blend of mesh/textile/leather would be nice and the overlords are already looking tempting to go with my sidi vertigo air's.

 

Those were my exact requirements.

There may be another model or two from icon that looks similar...its strange. I looked up what my receipt said I bought just to be sure I didn't give you the wrong info they are so close together

These are overpants so buy your reg pant size. They run a bit tall it seems. Knee armor has awesome adjusting system. Waist has a passive-ratchet style buckle. I wear a psyckle skin suit under them if I'm just riding. Otherwise shorts or maybe jeans depending. I wear my astars smx+ boots. Never even need to unzip the legs. Tends to not really flap in wind. The zipper pockets are deep enough if you leave them open with wallet you are scared enough to hold your pocket but won't lose anything. The thin interior material sometimes gets bound into the zipper when trying to zip with gloves on (like a tent door or sleeping bag).
It's never bad enough you can't fix it but sometimes you need to steady the pocket with your other hand and zip.

That's my brain dump of these icon overlords.

I think the jeans with the flex panel look nerdy as ****. And I also don't really want people to assume I'm wearing jeans.

You can still go in public with these and not feel like a total tool, but you are dismounting from an s1000 so you can really do whatever you want

For the price these are a no brainer.
