That's not exactly right, there's 4 versions
LX
MX Bluetooth
MX WiFi
SX

On the 1600 link I posted above, some of those guys tried substituting certain components of what the original poster had mentioned, and could not get their setup to work.
One other thing worth mentioning, there's mention of updating firmware before plugging into bike, by using your automobile. Must buy the motoscan ultimate from Google play as the Lite and Basic versions will NOT allow to reset service interval, only view it. Finally, there's mention of NOT using the software that comes with module, including the cheapo elm 327 units, only the Motoscan. It's a long fluffy thread, but if you got time, I highly recommend reading through all of it, starting from the first post...

Reset service light on unlimited bikes for less then $130 - BMW K1600 Forum : BMW K1600 GT and GTL Forums

Ugg... after reading thru the 16 pages now I’m starting to think that I should go with the MX version just because no one has definitively said that they got the LX version to work...?? If the firmware needs to be updated prior to using I may be somewhat in a bind because all we have are 2 GM vehicles and the LX model does not work with late model GM vehicles.

I wonder if Amazon will accept a return if it has been tried/used? If yes, I would try the LX right out of the box first but if not then I should just order the MX. I know electronics can be a sticky situation regarding returns...!!

I like when people are willing to hash through finding a cheaper version of something that already exists, only in a more expensive version. Though something has to be said that that expensive version is packaged all from one manufacturer, has a bespoke software, and has support from the maker.

So how much would this device be all together with the correct software? How much would you say your time is worth, for figuring out how to make it all work?

Yes, sorry to be "pessimistic Paul" but after reading the posts from 1600 forum, then reading yours here, I started to think the same thing.

I also have the same curiosity as you, and hate being stuck wasting even $15 on a device, if I will have no use for it. Depending on the retail packaging, as long as it's presentable as delivered to you, seems there wouldn't be a return issue.

Touché.
Under $150 USD - all in - cable, module, software.
The one thing to consider, is if one is simply using their free time to research, and not every waking moment of it, I wouldn't consider it to be much of an imposition.

The GS911 is a fine device, I've had one before. In my case I didn't really have much use for it, as I thought I would, especially given the cost - $400. I would still have it, if it had functional use with all my family's vehicles - 2 bikes, 2 cars, soon to be 2 additional cars, once the kids are driving.

In this respect, the little bit of free time used reading/sifting through fluffy posts people who have been gracious enough to share online of their experiences in great detail, complete with links to the actual items used successfully as well as, unsuccessfully, seems like a bargain to me.

The only potentially additional costs would be a different adaptor cable for the KTM in my case, and possibly a third for the 2 Honda automobiles. The kids will likely have Honda's too, cuz y not, one stop shopping for staples?!

The only reason I posted because the one I linked looks exactly the same as the OBDLink and there are more than 3000 sold.

Well, Amazon delivered me a suprise this morning and the OBDLink LX showed up. I had forgot about my wifes Challenger SRT8 covered up in the corner of the shop so I peeled back the cover and updated the firmware to the latest 4.3.3. I hooked it up to the bike and it worked to use the trial mode so I purchased the Professional version and it works just fine!

Under $100.00 later and I'm good to go!
$49.99 - https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...27201+OBDLink+LX+Bluetooth:+Professional+OBD-II+Scan+Tool+for+Android+&+Windows

$27.99 MotoScan Professional upgrade

Hope this helps!

**On a side note: I decided I’m going to return the LX version and go with the MX version because of its GM capabilities will make it a more versatile tool for me.

Anyone tried this UniCarScan BT Diagnostic Adapter
https://www.motoscan.de/2017/04/27/unicarscan-ucsi-2000-bluetooth-adapter-fuer-motoscan-app/

"As a better alternative, the OBDLink LX and MX adapters with Bluetooth are recommended. With current firmware (from at least 4.2.3), the adapters are guaranteed to fully support all BMW motorcycles with K-Line and CAN bus in full functionality.

From the end of April 2017, we offer a very reasonably priced UniCarScan BT UCSI-2000 adapter from our own development. This OBD-2 adapter has been specially optimized for BMW motorcycles and supports all features of the MotoScan app. Detailed information about the UniCarScan BT can be found in our news .

Since all this adapter has a 16-pin. OBD-2 connectors and the motorcycles by the end of 2016, a 10-pole. Diagnostic plug is installed, it is required a 16/10-pole. To use adapter cable. For all new motorcycles from model year 2017, the standard OBD-2 socket, as mounted on cars. It is due to the introduction of EU4 standards for motorcycles. No adapter cable is required for these bikes."

Which do you prefer / recommend > long or short cable ?

I was gonna quote Denzel Washington from "Training Day", but just as quickly as I had the thought, I realized that it wouldn't be prudent, so...My Man!!!
