Any safety advantage to wearing knee pucks??

I have taken 3 motorcycle schools and never worn the pucks for my leather pants as I do not bring a knee down far enough. I am going to my first track day and wonder other than giving one an indication of one's lean angle is there any safety aspect other than dragging your leathers on the asphalt? e.g. in a fall cushioning the knee Thanks ahead for your comments.

There is no real protection factor from the puck itself. Most racing suits typically have internal padding / armor to protect the hard points (knees, elbows, shoulders) I have lost pucks when crashing so don't count on them for protection. Really they are there to protect the leather for if/when you do get your knee down. You are correct in its a gauge to feel how far over you are. There are certain turns on certain tracks where the knee puck will be buried into the asphalt pretty good which can lead to accelerated wear but other wise you touch your knee down, gauge how far leaned over you are, then pick it up slightly.

For what its worth, I recommend Klucky Pucks for strength of the mounting Velcro and the longevity of the plastic they use.

If you are going to the track I would have them. You may not get a knee down (and honestly everyone pays way too much attention about it) but if you do - you are for sure going to burn a hole in your leathers.

Really don't focus on getting a knee down - focus on getting to know the track - the proper line - reference points - try to have good body position - and don't ride over your head because you are going to be on a track.

Have a great day - use the training you received from the 3 schools you attended. And the track organizer most likely will have coaches on track and classroom time take advantage of it all.

And then post up about your experience.
