Current owner of stage 1 Brentune flash. I previously had the m stage with a stock exhaust but once I fitted my full akra the idle started to get a little rough, jumping 200-400 rpm every few seconds. This was my main motivating factor in going stage 1 as honestly i couldn’t imagine needing any more power.

I just installed the stage 1 flash through the handheld and was disappointed to find out the idle remained the same... does anyone with a full exhaust and stage 1 or 2 have a slightly rough idle? From the videos I’ve seen others are rock solid so it’s kind of a bummer.

My stage one is fine with full exhaust. You need a new map from Brentune since you went from stock exhaust to full. That’s why they had you fill out all the questions again

I had the stage m+ and then installed the full exhaust. Once I installed the full akra I purchased the stage 1 and answered all the modification questions and what not. Idk maybe it’s this humid Florida climate or something.

I had this same problem, i went through about 5 flashes before it was fixed. I then got full Akra system and got a new flash and the issue came back, i emailed Brentuning and they made me send back the working file and the file that currently had idle issues and fixed it in a new flash. If it helps DM me and I’ll sent you my email you can use as reference and maybe they can send out the same file they sent me and fix that issue. Regardless they will fix it 100% just seeing if i can help speed that process up!

This is why I love this forum, fantastic group of fellow riders and s1000rr owners always willing to lend a hand. Well I am relieved that it’s not an issue with my bike itself. By the sounds of it Brentuning is very willing to work with us which justifies the high price lol. Will send you DM. Thanks again!

Even I get a really rough idle (and lean surge when slowing down to a half on the 1st gear.) I am on Stage 2 BT with all the trimmings.

I had told them about it but they mentioned everything was as expected so I did not pursue it any further. I have asked them again to fix it, since I am paying $100 for the remap for the ECU update. Any particular thing I need to be asking @BRENTUNING to ensure it gets fixed?

Hi Karan, i have the stage one flash but I’m pretty sure it would be the same process to get it fixed. I would try emailing Brentuning and give them a detailed explanation of what is going on with the idle that has you concerned, also if possible try to attach a short video of the issue, this is what i did and they were completely determined to get it fixed for me. Maybe you could also get a video of that issue and link it to this forum just so that anyone else that may have this issue with the stage 2 flash could use this information

Honestly I thought it was a s1000 thing to idle like ****. My 16 had a lumpy idle with a Brentune and my 18 also does it. It seems to smooth out a bit when it warms up. I am currently waiting for my stage 2 from Bren to get here. See if it helps or not

Similar problem here but I think my issue is more when it's in gear...
21 s1krr - Stage 1 brentune. The only mod is a SC slipon can.

In stock tune...idles and runs perfectly. Butter smooth actually which is great. Just don't have the tuned power (although the software update/cal the dealer did last year seemed to have improved the midrange and drivability...could be in my mind but...)

Brentuned I stall the bike too often from a stop. Mostly because I have a habit of blipping the throttle to find the clutch engagement before going. Brentuned at the track it's also hard to keep the throttle smooth when opening from lower rpm's downshifting at throttle close (like say end of a straight).

When I blip the throttle off idle, the engine falls on it's face and then "catches" again. I reached out to BT and they sent me a new tune to fix it, second tune was actually a bit worse than the first tune.

The tune comments on the second tune were "idle bump"...which didn't solve the problem. They said there was nothing more they could do. (?) First tune I've seen that didn't improve how the bike ran at all throttle openings.

Anyway I mention all this here to say the second tune with a slightly higher idle (hardly even noticeable so slight) does also surge here and there on flat idle. So where the idle is set on these bikes MAY also relate to surging issues.

The problem seems to be if you try and run the fuelling map under 4000 rpm at the ideal air fuel ratio it seems to cause a problem with wideband O2 sensors and the closed loop fuelling and the idle goes all to hell, You'll even get a misfire pulling away in some circumstances and stalling when shifting down gears. My 2020 M sport has a full system had been flashed (idle was awful), been on a local dyno (still idle was bad), Finally I bought Woolich Tuning software and have done map comparisons with a stock tune. I ended up setting my fuel map back to stock sub 4k and the bike idles and runs like it used to. It really is quite a bizarre issue.
I have the auto tune system installed on the bike now with an intake flapper delete so I'll be tweaking the map to get it as close to the ideal AFR without screwing the idle etc up.

I've moved on from brentune to other tunes since they stopped responding to me. SLR appears to be an option (engaged and detailed) and very interesting that Woolich allows use of the stock tune below 4k which I can see how that would solve the issue. I just did an RS2E tune, which you have to ship your ECU to Germany to obtain. I was only able to test it a little bit but so far the tune they taylored for me rips, seems to have eliminated the surging on decel issue and idle dropout issues on off idle throttle blip in large part...smooth feeling tune and you keep the torque bump in lower revs too. Taylor Knapp tipped me off to them after having similar issues to mine in testing.
