I'd been having some intermittent issues with the lean sensor on my 2015 S1000RR (without the BMW alarm) with the OEM battery, and since it was 4 years old and I'm riding back to CO in a couple weeks to ride around, I thought I'd change it. What kind of got me thinking about it was an ad I got the other day from Revzilla saying they had the Yuasa YTZ10S battery for my bike on sale. Be aware that the Revzilla listing is incorrect. If you go to Yuasa's own website, it says the Yuasa YTZ10S is for the BMWs WITH the BMW alarm, and it's larger and requires the "alarm" battery box. When I ordered my Yuasa YTZ7S I told the salesman so they could correct the listing. Too bad the ads were already e-mailed to, I'm sure, a ton of people. Hopefully they'll fix it, and he gave me $10 off for bringing that to their attention.

So, be warned, and I'll post up my experience when I get it. I think the OEM battery is 80CCA, and the Yuasa will be 130, so, it should give a useful boost in performance. Also, even though it's a AGM type battery, it can be charged just like a normal lead/acid battery, so, your Battery Tenders etc. will work just fine.

Since I really didn't care about shaving every last ounce, spending a ton of money, and having to deal with potential charging and cold-start issues with the exotic batteries, I just went with an Olde School lead/acid battery.

Ride safe!

How many KM/miles on your old battery?

I've been having same little annoyance, lean angle turns off sometimes on starting the bike.

Mines a 2016 with 30,000km on it, but a lot of cold (sub zero) and hot (40+) weather riding. (celcius)

Good catch. Actually the AGM batteries charge at a tiny bit higher voltage and a smart charger that can sense what it is hooked up to is warranted.

I've got (only) about 19,600MILES on it (sadly haven't ridden much in the last 1-1/2 years). I always use a Battery Tender and it seems to start ok, but, considering the ride I've got planned and it's age I thought maybe a new one was a good idea. Could I get another year out of it? Maybe, but as sensitive as the BMW is to voltage compared to my old analog '01 Gixxer, while I probably would keep the battery for a while on that one, I'm gonna replace it on this one.

Oh, and I also have a Scorpio alarm on it with the motion detector, so, I wanted a bit stouter battery.

its confusing:

- BMW manual calls for an AGM type with 8ah (10ah with alarm)

- Yuasa search give the YTZ7S - AGM with 6.3 ah

Interesting: When I went to replace the OEM battery, it WAS a Yuasa YTZ7S. So, I guess it's not an upgrade in CCA after all!

The only problem was that the battery in the remote on my Scorpio alarm died some time ago, so I just manually turned the alarm off before the remote completely died (instead of using the auto arm/disarm feature which uses the RFID chip in the remote). Well, as soon as I hooked the + lead back up the alarm started screaming in my ears! [email protected]! Well, I can vouch for the fact that the alarms internal battery is strong enough and lasts long enough to make your day completely miserable. I used my shooting over-ear ear protection to be able to stand close enough to the bike to finish tightening up the leads.....but the optional motion detector kept causing it to go off. [email protected] Part 2! So, I went in the house, found the remote, and even though the battery is FUBAR'd, it still lit up when I plugged it into the charger, so, I was able to manually turn off the alarm again. Whew! I WILL carry it and the charger on my trip back to CO for a week on Wednesday just in case something goes awry.

How's the battery holding up? I need a replacement for my 16' because the positive lead is shaking around. Bike turned off on me last night, removed the seat and found that the actual terminal, not the wire, was wiggling. Push it one way i had power, move it the other way, no power. I was able to jam a piece of hard paper from an old comedy show ticket to keep pressured until i got home and took it back out lol. Anyhow, i just wanna make sure this YTZ7S is a good buy.

Data point, although the manual says 8ah, my 16 has the 6.3ah YTZ7S, oem complete with BMW logo.

Go figure.

My lean angle thing disappeared again today, after a spirited run, stop for 5 mins, then of we go again sans lean angle display.

So I went with a Yuasa YTZ7S and yeah, the OEM one is the exact same battery. So far no issues. I'll keep you guys updated if I have any issues with it, but so far so good.
