Just purchased a 16 for the upcoming race season. We are waiting for our RCK3 to arrive so we can go and test out different settings as we are also moving from the cast wheel to the forged. ( didn't want the ddc and no one had a non ddc with forgies in stock)

I was going to try and run gpa pros as well as the Dunlop slick as that's been our tire of choice for quite some time. But after reading most of this we will be very careful to track wheel spin and dtc intervention at our upcoming peace sessions.

If all goes well I can post up our results.

2016 s1k
Forged wheels
Non ddc
Gpa pro and Dunlop slick test.
Track TBD

The ideal is to buy the map for the specific tire but since you can choose from 15 different percentage of intervention you will be ok until the RCK3 arrive. You will also need a proper dataloger to take advantage of the RCK3.

Can confirm, my bike came with casts (190s) and have been running Pirelli slicks 200 with forged wheels and as long as you keep the DTC steps about 2 levels higher than you normally would, then it's fine.

I start with a -4/-5with a brand new tire and start moving to -4, -3 and -2 as I use it and it starts slipping more.

With that said, a BMW tech showed me this recently: https://imgur.com/a/kdPn8

Curious about the tyre radius auto detection, if it's true or not, but also the HP Race Power Kit I had never heard of.
As far as I know there is no Pirelli SuperCorsa slick. There is only SuperBike Slick and maybe this is what he means. Also I never heard of the HP Race Power Kit. Maybe it is the HP Race ECU upgrade only without the Race Calibration cable...

Yeah I'm guessing they meant the DOT slick (Supercorsa SC).

But I agree, the page from that manual seems odd, I have also never heard of the Power Kit.

Is HP power kit the same as HP race unlock code?

Do you know exactly where this page is from, and/or do you have the entire page(s)? This looks to be the most exhaustive and best presented version of the data that I have seen.

Yes. Normally the "kit" is considered the Akra exhaust with the enable code. But for what you are asking, yes--the HP Race Unlock Code enables these "hidden" maps (not just A/F maps).

- 13 61 8 522 450 ENABLE CODE FOR HP RACE POWER KIT - ASAP 1 $368.51ADD TO CART
Racing electronic engine management unit with racing data release. Increased torque, particularly at midrange rpm relevant for racing on closed tracks. Optimization of the ride modes (RAIN, SPORT, RACE, SLICK) for track racing to boost performance under acceleration and traction (Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)). Purpose: Optimized handling characteristics for circuit racing. Already used successfully by race teams. Enablement by authorized BMW Motorrad dealer only (by enabling code in the control unit).

What is a DOT slick???

I think know why you are asking... but yes, it's basically a slick tire with groves on it, just a DOT.

Some reference call them "DOT slicks", which isn't technically correct, because it's either a slick or it isn't...

Pirelli has the Supercorsa SP, and the Supercorsa SC. The SP is the tire that comes with bikes from the factory and the more street friendly tire. The SC is almost like a Diablo Superbike slick, but with groves, and this one would be the "DOT slick", race DOT, etc..

Too bad with race HP unlock code ABS becomes slick on all mode. Useless on the street. I wonder if there is a way around that.

I do not, and I agree, I have been wanting to find out more about it but it's hard to get a hold of this tech that showed me this. I will keep trying and update this when I do.

Well aware. Wrong terminology is wrong. DOT has sipes. Slicks do not. No such thing as a DOT slick. Like saying street legal slick.

Right, which is why I addressed the wrong terminology at the beginning and why I knew why you were asking... then again, I was explaining this: https://imgur.com/a/kdPn8

Lost in translation (german to english), bad terminology, etc, whatever it is, that guide mentions "Super Corsa Slick tires", and I was trying to help connect the dots, that's all.

Would be very keen to see more on the 'auto detection' of tire radius. It is my understanding that the bike is preset with the tire dimensions for the tires that come stock, and that is has a certain range that it can operate in either side, but that it will not be optimal.

I have always wondered why there hasn't been a way to manually set/detect this like the Aprilia.

here is how it is defined in the RCK3 calibration help pages.

Tire size does matter, and is used for tuning to the optimum slip angle correction at the track.

Now, what I dont see is the exact percent of correction on the street that the ECU can calculate from. Like in Rain, Sport, Race modes.

Get the RCK2/3 then you have 3/4 ABS modes to choose from per riding mode :nerd:
ya I would rather not spend $2k on RK3 and unlock code. And lose my warranty (biggest factor for me).
