The start switch only communicates off/on/start via the wiring to the ECU. The ECU then makes the command to the starter relay. That then energizes the starter motor.
Failing to start is just too vague to help in what might be wrong. Those starter buttons do wear out. cheap item to buy off ebay compared to buying at the dealer. The ECU can be an issue in the starting sequence. The starter relay can be an issue. The starter motor can be an issue.
You dont mention miles, how long you owned it and if you know the maintenance history. All this is a factor too.
