Is there a technical reason...track rules reason...etc. that is stopping BMW from adding keyless ride to the S1000RR?

I've wondered the same thing. On a bike that touts the latest tech with electronically adjustable everything, why are we still using a key to start the bike?

track bikes dont need push to start as many use the relocation EWS module hardware. Push to start has an additional wiring harness and it is complicated programming inside the ECU.

Makes sense and similarly M2/M3/M4 should come standard w/manual seats

Thought if they really want to reduce weight, real race bikes not street, wouldn't the remove the starter and battery and like karts have an external starter?

I see what you're saying but the majority of S1000RR's are street driven exclusively. It would be great if push-to-start was at least offered as an option so that the buyer had a choice.

No thanks. I know I know. XYZ has keyless ignition and it's been reliable. Something that simple, I'd rather keep old fashioned. A buddy of mine with a brand new KTM Superduke was having all sorts of issues with his keyless ignition on a group ride we went on.

It has been done already. But again, requires high level knowledge to make it work. I have not bothered to add it to mine. I can deal with the key. But I know of someone who's done it.

I have it on my F900XR and it’s nice to keep the key in my pocket. In fact same with the cars. It’ll be strange using a key again.

Many club racer rules have must be self starting.

Even WSBK has the must be self starting rule. These are production based bikes. When you see the teams use a power starter device, it is to keep from running the battery down on the bike. If you notice a rider goes down and he attempts to rejoin the race, he is pushing a button first to try to start the bike, but if that fails, then they attempt to push start it.

I agree, there's so much tech on these new bikes a keyless ignition is just not that important, but I see it becoming a feature on most in a few years. It doesn't need to be a push button, we already have that on the bars, unless that's eliminated, just sensing the key on you. It'll be stuck in a higher priced package as usual, just driving up the level above base even higher.

Keyless ignition on a bike is a bad idea.You'd still need a key to open the fuel tank.
Better to keep it in the ignition than taking up pocket space.

Actually, you don't need the 'key' to open the fuel tank (wife has keyless GS), but you do still need the key to remove the seat.

This. I loved the feature on my 1250. Didn't need the key for anything besides opening the key matched luggage, or the seats.

I once left my keyless ride key in the passenger seat release barrel for an entire day of riding, so lucky it didn't fall out on the highway because I was a very long way from home.

I have a keyless ignition on my Harley, and I absolutely love it. Very convenient, hope on and go. It absolutely ridiculous the BMW does not have it as an option or in a package.

And yes, I did lose/drop my key on a ride. Must have fallen out of my pocket. I got lucky twice. I programmed the code to start it without the key after I turned it off to get gas. Then pulled my phone out and tracked back to my key because I put a apple airtag on it. 1 am in the morning, 15 miles away in the middle of the street layed my key. I rode back, picked it up and went home. ALL my keyless keys now have an AirTag.
