I'm about to buy a crashed 2019 S1000R. Most of the damage is cosmetic, although it does need a new radiator, as well as the headlight/gauge support and some minor things. The price is right though...

The OEM radiator is awfully expensive, and S1000R radiators aren't exactly easy to find used. I see there are aftermarket radiators available for the S1000RR, and that the coolant hoses and guards for them are the same, but the radiator itself is specific to the R/XR.

Can anyone tell me whether the RR radiator will fit an R/XR?

I'm sure I'll have some other questions over time as well.

Looks like it might, maybe the part number is different because one is painted black and the other is grey? Welcome to the forum.

That's what I'm hoping. I don't need it to look factory, just trying to get the bike to be a decent rider (rather than pristine/OEM).

Also: I can't find a parts fiche for 2019. Is there any difference from 17/18? I think they're the same, just want to make sure.

I will say that some of the OEM part prices are pretty outrageous: fuel tank is $2300, header $4300, muffler $1500. Those 3 together are over half MSRP. I'll be going used/aftermarket when possible.

If it's a K47 (in the VIN) then it's the same as the earlier models, only slight differences that you can find by selecting the correct OD version (again in the VIN). Use RealOEM.com and you will find everything you need to know.

WB10D6209KZ97xxxx is the vin. Looking at various web sites I see that it's a K47 but don't see that in the vin.

Here is how it breaks down

WB is where it is made and that is Germany

1 is motorcycle

0 means a two wheel motorcycle

That 0 is part of the series meaning is a K47 (S 1000 R) BMW S 1000 R 17 (0D52, 0D62). Type Code: 0D62

The 8th usually indicates some type of engine in cars, but on the motorcycle it is always a ZERO

The next which is the 9 digit in a VIN is the all important check digit

The 10th is the next most important part of the VIN, the MODEL YEAR ( MY ) in this case of yours 2019 ( K )

the rest goes on to plant manufacturing and Z is 4 cylinder

Thank you. I'd been thinking that K47 would be in the VIN in plain text somewhere rather than having to decode it.

do these bikes require 91 octane? I don't mind the extra cost but sometimes remote stations are 87 only. I assume the RR requires 91 but the detuned R might be different.

Check the owner's manual, if you don't have one you can find it on line. It is country specific, as the method of measuring octane is not universal.

You can find the K47 by putting the manufacturing date into the parts fiche system, the date (month/year) is on the VIN sticker, top right corner.

Thanks for that info. Could you link me to where you found it? I'd like to ask him whether everything else bolts up.

One option would be to buy a China aluminum RR radiator and then shorten the filler neck.

The rad fits and works its just that the fairing wont fit over the higher neck plus theres a plastic fairing bracket on the rr rad which gets in the way of the r fairing



I messaged the guy who originally posted that pic and that was his reply. if I can't manage to figure out a better option I might buy a China RR rad and modify it (cut the neck down), although I'm in touch with Mylers Radiators (who made the rads on my Husaberg) to see if they can make a new end tank or something.

Never buy a crashed bike or you should check if frame is bent, most problems with crashed bike its going to pushing you to left or right when you riding it because wheels are not linear because of bented frame....

I'm in the process of building a crashed RR into a track-only R model. This info is super helpful. Looks like I'll be modifying my Ebay R plastics to suit that radiator!
