Welcome and congratulations for the new bike. Be safe out there!
Thanks for this solid advice! I was thinking along these lines.Congrats on the new bike. While off-road riding certainly is a great skill developer, as a previous owner (and amateur racer) of two RRs, here's some unsolicited advice: Resist the urge to load up the moto with add-on options and invest the money instead on (a) training (the CSS is a great place, but also use on-track coaching at track days) and (b) the best protective gear (i.e. leathers, gloves, boots, helmet) you can get. If I was shopping today I'd try the airbag leathers...
It's tempting to toss the stock exhaust. Let it break in a bit, after about 1,000 miles they either loosen up and sound way better, or one gets used to loving the stock sound. The bike has plenty of stock power, so unless you really feel the flat spot, etc., investing in an ECU or fuel controller is also overkill. Just ride and ride some more. Wish I lived in SoCal. Enjoy!
I see this all too often w/BMW cars. First thing too many people do is replace the stock exhaust. I can only imagine how obnoxiously loud some exhausts must sound once they fully break in.<snip>
