I tried searching but couldn't find anything so does anyone know what the tapped hole on the left side of the subframe is for?

Also, while I'm wondering, does anyone know what the bare spots on the main frame are for? I assume it is for assembly or something but they are rather odd and the fact that BMW leaves them unfinished is even more odd.

The subframe hole as been discussed. This is a mounting point for a Euro device that the USA does not get.

The bare spots on the frame are jig mounting points for holding during other machining process. The only need pins to go in there to locate the frame points.

The right side did have a shark fin mounted to the bare spots 2019 ( Euro ) 2020 -22 .. but the 23 now does not use those bare spots at all for mounting and the holes are not even drilled in them.

Thanks. I knew, without doubt, that it had to have been discussed thoroughly, I just couldn’t find anything under the search terms I was using.

I am surprised and a little dumbfounded that BMW would leave those frame spots unfinished like that. I get it that they were probably ground down after the frame was coated but still. Why not do something, anything, to finish them off? Just seems strange is all. The shark fin doesn’t cover it all the way... like my picture.
Looks even more strange on the 2023 now. The mounting points for the shark fine are just bare finished. No drilled and tapped hole. This is the front side mounting point on the right side.

That does look even stranger now because they appear to be for absolutely nothing. It is just crazy odd that BMW decided not to finish them or at least do something. They could have easily painted them black. I may do that with mine. It doesn’t bother me as much as wondering WHY they didn’t do it.

" surprised and a little dumbfounded " " crazy odd " I think you're making a bit much of the fact the manufacturers chose to leave these sections paint free, probably in the event of needing them later, for rebuild work? It is a racebike after all.

🤣 That is a funny, "but dumbfounding" theory. How does a little paint stop them from doing anything at all.... including "rebuild work". Even if it's a contact point in a carrier/robot/jig/machine... they could still paint it in .053 seconds... even during the final stages of assembly. I believe it's an assembly carrier mounting point. The frames were coated before they machined those flats so maybe it has something to do with time/costs of matching the coat on those spots.... which means it would likely have to go back in an oven.... which just wouldn't be feasible. I wish we had a definitive answer either way.
