Been thinking of trying this as I don't want to spend $$ on the GS911. I am looking at the ELM327 adapters.

I just need to reset service minders so I don't want to spend the $$$ on the GS911. That too I have to get both the older and newer versions for the 2012 RR and 2014 RR.

the cheap ELM327 wont let you reset the service codes as they cant send a string of info long enough for our ECU's to read.

I am waiting on a fleabay 10pin to 16pin adapter for one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/ScanTool-426...onal/dp/B006NZTZLQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1512007843&sr=8-1&keywords=OBDLINK+MX

A mate with a '17 S1000RR has one and I've seen it in action, reset his service codes with MotoScan Android App on his phone, talks via bluetooth. Theres a free "lite" version to test before buying, and free software updates as they come up..

I'm getting the LX version as I dont need to hook it to a FORD :)

I've spoken (emails) with the MotoScan developer in Germany, he is working on the codes for actuating the ABS thingy when bleeding brakes - he says it will be deployed early 2018 when he has ironed out the bugs.

Correct! I can confirm that this cheap unit doesn’t work as I tried it today and it won’t connect to the ECU.

The video is an El cheapo elm327, the link for k1600 is for the obdlink mx. But that El cheapo works according to vid so...looking on fleabay there are a heap with similar looking stickers, but it's hard to find a seller without a heap of negative feedback. I guess if it doesn't work it's 10bucks down the drain...

Let me know if the LX works as it can be had for less than half the MX cost at $30-35.

I like when people are willing to hash through finding a cheaper version of something that already exists, only in a more expensive version. Though something has to be said that that expensive version is packaged all from one manufacturer, has a bespoke software, and has support from the maker.

So how much would this device be all together with the correct software? How much would you say your time is worth, for figuring out how to make it all work?

Touché.
Under $150 USD - all in - cable, module, software.
The one thing to consider, is if one is simply using their free time to research, and not every waking moment of it, I wouldn't consider it to be much of an imposition.

The GS911 is a fine device, I've had one before. In my case I didn't really have much use for it, as I thought I would, especially given the cost - $400. I would still have it, if it had functional use with all my family's vehicles - 2 bikes, 2 cars, soon to be 2 additional cars, once the kids are driving.

In this respect, the little bit of free time used reading/sifting through fluffy posts people who have been gracious enough to share online of their experiences in great detail, complete with links to the actual items used successfully as well as, unsuccessfully, seems like a bargain to me.

The only potentially additional costs would be a different adaptor cable for the KTM in my case, and possibly a third for the 2 Honda automobiles. The kids will likely have Honda's too, cuz y not, one stop shopping for staples?!

The only reason I posted because the one I linked looks exactly the same as the OBDLink and there are more than 3000 sold.

Well, Amazon delivered me a suprise this morning and the OBDLink LX showed up. I had forgot about my wifes Challenger SRT8 covered up in the corner of the shop so I peeled back the cover and updated the firmware to the latest 4.3.3. I hooked it up to the bike and it worked to use the trial mode so I purchased the Professional version and it works just fine!

Under $100.00 later and I'm good to go!
$49.99 - https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...27201+OBDLink+LX+Bluetooth:+Professional+OBD-II+Scan+Tool+for+Android+&+Windows

$14.99 - https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...Pin+OBD2+Adapter+Connector+Diagnostic+Cable+for+BMW+ICOM-D+Motorcycle+Motorbike

$27.99 MotoScan Professional upgrade

Hope this helps!

Anyone tried this UniCarScan BT Diagnostic Adapter
https://www.motoscan.de/2017/04/27/unicarscan-ucsi-2000-bluetooth-adapter-fuer-motoscan-app/

"As a better alternative, the OBDLink LX and MX adapters with Bluetooth are recommended. With current firmware (from at least 4.2.3), the adapters are guaranteed to fully support all BMW motorcycles with K-Line and CAN bus in full functionality.

From the end of April 2017, we offer a very reasonably priced UniCarScan BT UCSI-2000 adapter from our own development. This OBD-2 adapter has been specially optimized for BMW motorcycles and supports all features of the MotoScan app. Detailed information about the UniCarScan BT can be found in our news .

Since all this adapter has a 16-pin. OBD-2 connectors and the motorcycles by the end of 2016, a 10-pole. Diagnostic plug is installed, it is required a 16/10-pole. To use adapter cable. For all new motorcycles from model year 2017, the standard OBD-2 socket, as mounted on cars. It is due to the introduction of EU4 standards for motorcycles. No adapter cable is required for these bikes."

Which do you prefer / recommend > long or short cable ?

 darrnit the site does not allow me to use Paypal to buy .... aaargh !!

Yeah MX works. All other cheap chinese scanners didn't work for me. But I got the MX BT for $45 bucks on ebay so am not complaining.

Just to confirm as far as the S1000RR is concerned, is there a specific need for the ODBLink MX?
Or will the LX support all of MotoScan's features too?

I ask because I have a chinese elm327 and it does work in regards to resetting the service light, but that's it. I'm convinced it somehow backdated my ECU's time & date as I now receive a constant service reminder for October 2017. I've tried setting the correct time and date, but it fails every time as the device is unable to send long strings of data. Today is May 2018...

verified on 2017

  • Connected my OBDLink LX to the OBD2 port (2017+ use the standard OBD2 port vs the 10 pin)
  • Turned the bike's ignition to "on."
  • Paired the OBDLink to my phone via the OS' bluetooth settings.
  • "Connected" the OBDLink within the official OBDLink app.
  • Updated the firmware to the latest (4.3.0 at the time) via the OBDLink app. This can also be done via Windows
  • "Connected" the OBDLink within the MotoScan app.
  • Selected my bike (2017 is the K46 MĂś2).
  • Played with all the things.

Hello, I was wondering about the Service Functions available in the Ultimate version of your App - what are these service functions, and how would they apply to 2016 S1000RR ?
thanks
