What we really need is the ability to create our own set ups of ABS DDC, front / rear brake mixing, etc... similar to ZX10 race ECU that comes with PC software that allows user to fully configure.

Yes, how did you get into the bmw? Care to share pics of the bikes physical setup?

So I will follow up with my story on the building of the GSXR’s to have electric shift systems. I had a goal to be on the bike again 6 months to the day of my accident cutting my left leg off. I needed a prosthetic leg. This was the biggest delay. The prosthetics doctor indicated I had to wait 6 months for swelling and tissue change since this was an above knee amputation. September 6th I got my leg. I had watched enough youtube videos to know what to expect and how to make it work. I don’t have just any low end knee, I have a Genium X2 designed for the military amputations. I am ex-military so Raytheon worked very hard to help me get the best of the best.

So now I have the GSXR 1000 fitted with the Pro Shift electronics, I have a left leg to stand on. Time to learn to ride again. Sept 15th … just over my 6 months goal since my accident February 23rd, I was riding a motorcycle again. Its like the first time you take off the training wheels to your bicycle. You are going to fall over. My poor GSXR fell to the left side most likely 20 times. Coming to a stop some day you guys try to make yourself only use your right leg. Imagine that no left leg and no way to put your own kick stand down. I have a lot of good friends. Everyone made sure if I wanted to ride, there were there for me to help turn the bike around, put the kick stand up and down, help me pick up the bike when it did fall over. Thank you Derek, John, Calvin, Walter, Tom, and several others… The GSXR 1000 was just not working for me. I decided to take the 2013 750 I crashed on apart to the frame and rebuild it. That only took me 5 days since I had enough parts to build 5 GSXR’s. I put a different electric shift system on it and put more buttons on the left and right side to try to get a sequence and process that really worked. It is so difficult to imagine that blipping the throttle, pulling in the clutch lever, and pressing a button could be so damn difficult on down shifts. Upshifts were a piece of cake. I had the HM Plus QS and upshifts were just a matter of bang the button and WFO. It was the downshifting killing me. I was a top 5 expert. How can I be so slow simply needing to blip, clutch, downshift .. come to a stop and not fall down. I felt useless by now.

It was December 15th 2014. I decided to sell all my GSXR motorcycles and parts. That was 7 GSXRs on hand, and enough parts to build 5 more. I was done with trying to ride a motorcycle and in a downhill depression swing. January and February 2015 were good months and I sold almost all the bikes, and half the parts. In the mail on February 15th there about, I got a postcard for the BMW S1000RR new and improved 2015. The features of that postage read, UP / DOWN Pro Quick Shifter with auto blipping. I did not care about any more features beyond that, but I remember teasing my buddy John on his 2012 S1000RR having heated grips. I noticed the 2015 had heated grips and cruise control. Wow, so cool. Now get this guys, I never been into the BMW dealer, I never filled out a single ad online about the BMW product line. To this day I cannot imagine how BMW got my address to send me that postcard. So here I go to YouTube. I start searching on the BMW 2015. With great luck the UK and Australia already had their 2015’s. USA was getting them March 1. I must have watched 300 videos in 14 days on the 2015 listening to the shifts and how people reacted about the quick shifter system. I was sold. I wanted one to try. I called the Plano BMW dealer and asked if they had the 2015 S1000RR and Shaun indicated they had one left out of 15. Red / White fully loaded premium with race package forged wheels. I said perfect it was what I wanted how much? He indicated it would be $19995 OTD … I asked if there was any discounts or incentives and Shaun responded it is $19,995 OTD .. I said perfect I will take it. That was March 2nd and March 6th I was the owner of a shiny Red White S1000RR. The guys at the dealership had heard of me on my GSXR days, but had no idea I was now missing a left leg. They all kind of looked at me really strange buying a brand new motorcycle I could not even ride once all the paper work was done. It had to go home and I had to rip it apart to put in the electric shift system. Took me 3 days to design and install the Kliktronic Shift System. Took me only 3 days to put the 625 miles on it. I did not fall over once on this shiny new bike. The shifting was flawless and I was getting use to closing the throttle and pushing buttons for the down shift. The up shift banging was so flawless, I felt like I was on a MotoGP bike with seamless shifting. But it only got better when I learned the ECU code and cracked the RCK3/HP power kit enables so I could run the MCT quick shifter system. Now 1900 posts later, here I am on S1000RR forum. Thank you all. It took the BMW to keep me in the motorcycle community. It was my PTSD cure.

That is an awesome story! It's like a movie with a happy ending. You're an inspiration. My story is no where near yours but I just got a total left ankle replacement in September. Bike accident 5 of 6 destroyed my ankle. I've broken bones and had road rash everywhere many times. I think about giving up riding but then PTSD/depression kicks in and all I want to do is ride. within the past 10 years I lost two siblings and a nephew. Two of my kids are fighting for their lives right now. Riding is my therapy. So I understand some of your pain and I admire your dedication to not let life keep you down.

I thought about an electric shifter as well since I have almost no range of motion.

You ever thought of trying to install the kick stand on the right side with the kick stand peg lengthened so it extends passed the exhaust mid pipe? maybe put a heat shield in between.

I can reach the kickstand as long as I am parked on very even ground, and my right foot is not in sand or gravel. I have to unzip my leather jacket so I can bend over a bit better. Sounds like too many jelly donuts in my old age.

A BMW IOMTT rider ( Ian Hutchinson ) has a very cool shifter relocation on his BMW, but I have looked and looked for detail pics of this conversion and they do not post many. I emailed to a few people including whoever it was, ( Ian Hutchinson ) but never got a response on how the conversion was done to his BMW. Its not like I think it would work well for me anyway since my right foot is so mangled up and had 7 surgeries to repair it from 2013 to 2017.

I have tried nearly all the electric shifter options. Pingle is designed mostly for Harley and they dont have the 40amp version. Pro Shift is just over priced, over engineered in the electronic box. They do have the 40amp solenoid and it does work well. TranLogic has a setup they have tried to market but I called them and they indicated that their solenoid cannot bang gears up or down in milli seconds at all in a demanding racing environment. They told me not to even try theirs. Then there is Kliktronics. Keith is awesome in customer support, very well priced, and he has a 40 amp solenoid option. That thing will bang the gear downshifting as quick as your finger can operate the button. Up shifts are never a problem because you are waiting on the RPM's to come up anyway to the shift point.

So lets look at the bright side. Its no matter my shift pattern is GP or Standard shift. Theres an up button and a down button. I can be cranked over at 50 degree and I have up shifted and downshifted both on 15,18, and 20... the tire never does any unpredictable things. As long as your QS is set to the best it can be, it just performs.

Thanks for the very informative reply. I appreciate the help from an expert.

So if I understand, you feather the rear a bit to feel how light it is during trail braking coming from high speed straights into those heavy/slow corners, and maybe even use it to oversteer the corner some? Do you not use it for turn 1 because of the uphill and camber?

At my (far lower) level, I don't imagine I will be using the technique for at least a while. I fear that first time I try it, I'll slide the rear out, panic and then high-side. I'll focus on basics like lines, entry speeds, visual skills, body position and normal braking, and let the BMW software help some with the linked rear.
This is the best explanation as to the whys of various riding techniques, including use of the rear.

The videos mixes many topics. Using the rear brake on sportbikes Vs sumo is very different. Unless one is few seconds off the track record, they are better off not touching the rear brake. There are much more important areas to work on like line and vision.

Rear brake on the track can be used:
- going off the track in gravel/grass, front should not be touched
- on corner exits to keep the front down
- on corner entry to back it in (that only works in certain turns).

On the road:
- when riding 2up to help minimize front dive.
- at low speeds to do tight turns & uturns

Without having a thumb rear brake, it's tricky to apply it consistently on the track especially on left corners.

My opinion is that from 1:00 marker to 1:30 seconds is the best answer you can have.

You do what is best for you, and how easy you can work with what you learned.

I tell people how I brake into a corner even before I lost my leg on the GSXR's and I get this confused look of its not going to work for them.

Its kind of like @z00 said, work on a laptime that is respectable first with the basics. The bad thing about learning a pattern is you can get stuck in it for the worse. Then it is hard to get out of that pattern and advance. I am not going to use COTA as an example because the opportunity is not there to ride that track very often. Cresson is a track that falls on the RideSmart schedule and CMRA a few times a year. Then the members days are pretty easy to hook up with a member and make some laps. Off the trailer at Cresson a 1:30 would fall under respectable. Moving to 1:25 should be easy with some practice and pointers about Little Bend and Tombstone. Getting to 1:22 is now a goal where it all has to really come together. 1:19 is going to get you a top 7 in expert times. most of the top 3 experts run 1:15 in the race. 1:13 was a nice clear warm day that Ty Howard set the bar at.

So really how you chose to use your hardware in practice and then race pace is all about you.

Tahoebrian5, I can answer this. I have a 2019 K46 with full akro (not Ti) and no flash... this is now my wife's bike. I have a 2020M now with Ti full akro and XWorks flash. Prior to the flash, the wife could outpull me in low-to-midrange pretty consistently and the only point I could make up time was way at the top end, and it was very minimal. If the 2019 had the lighter pipe and CF wheels, I suspect the it would take forever to catch up. After the flash, it has that lower end grunt that I really loved on my '19. I have done a few side-by-side pulls and I'm either dead even or pulling away before I hit 10k rpm. The wife borrowed it a few times and she says that all the power combined with the lightweight/agility almost surprises her when she cracks it open. I don't track the bike, so I can't speak to that personally. However, a few short freeway races and some curvy mountain roads are proving insanely fun. No joke, when I had that bike stock, even with the pipe, the anemic performance in 2nd and 3rd was such a let down. I couldn't understand why I spent all that money for something that couldn't keep up with my K46. Now it performs the way I envisioned it way back when I first saw the bike announced. Hope that helps.

Glad you had a great experience! I'm having trouble getting hold of @BMW_388, maybe you can help with some questions I have. Perhaps he's unable to answer because he isn't a vendor here yet. If you're able to help with any of these answers, let me know. I'm trying to decide which way to go with my flashing. These questions were meant for BMW_388 but I'll just direct them at everyone that can answer now. Maybe BMW_388 can PM me the answers?

#1 From my limited understanding of how these flashes are, they are all cookie cutter unless you get a custom dyno tune. BUT if you get a good "cookie cutter" tune, a custom dyno tune should only yield 1% more power. Especially because the 2020 is a wideband bike. You can command a specific AFR and it will nail it every time. Is that correct?

#2 I see the XWorks Flash requires a servo buddy if aftermarket exhaust is installed. Why is that so when other companies are able to provide a flash without a servo buddy and no errors?

#3 I saw your explanation of the idle rough idle with the XWorks flash and the stock idle. The explanation you gave is completely different than what other companies give relating to the nature of this issue. Your explanation seems to be (correct me if I'm wrong) that oil is leaking and getting sucked into the throttle bodies but when I looked at your photos, I saw the throttle bodies are not soaked with oil but clean on the inside where the air would flow to the engine. Other companies are claiming this issue is a result of bad air/fuel mixture at idle to adhere to US standards for emissions. They also provide Air/Fuel charts at idle that place it at 17-18 AFR!! Crazy stuff there. But a flash that will adjust idle AFR seems to work in fixing this issue (from what I've seen but not experienced myself). Do you have any of your own independent testing to confirm your results about this being a hardware issue? Meaning if the oil leak is fixed, the idle is now fixed with perfect AFR?

#4 I'm unable to find on your site or motomillion the testing you did to bring this flash to market. I recall you saying you spend hundreds of hours in R&D. Are you able to provide some videos or data from your own independent testing? Do you have individual cylinder monitoring? What equipment are you using at your shop to conduct these tests? It would be helpful for someone like me who's trying to decide what route to go.

#5 The RCK for the 10-19 bikes seems to be only adjustable to +-4* of timing and +-20% fueling. Why is that? I've seen many people (Irnie Marcel for one) that require piggyback fueling to make this work with aftermarket exhaust and different fuel. Is there a solution BMW provides for greater adjustability?

#6 The RCK or whatever it's called for the 2020 is thousands in cost and doesn't adjust timing at all while disabling knock sensors. That seems very odd to me. Any idea why they are doing this?

Thanks in advance for your response.
Are you associated with Bren Tuning? I am not associated with anyone, however, your post sounds fishy. If not, I apologize in advance.

Not at all. Just trying to get answers. I don't have a lot of questions for brentuning because I have most of my questions answered on their website. I'm not able to find any answers or data about the xworks flash. BMW_388 did PM me but requires me to call to answer the questions. I may do that later but I hate taking notes. It would be nice to have data I can view. Maybe I'm alone on that one but that's just me. Sorry if i'm derailing the thread here.

If you want to see what his answers are then just call him. Then write it down. Hate taking notes or not you can get the answers your asking for
