Just picked this up on Friday.

Triple Black with Premium package. I am coming off of a 2018 Multistrada 1260. Now to transfer all of the farkles from the previous bike to this one.

Trying to find some info out on Motoscan vs. GS911 vs, Bimmer utility.

Wondering if any of these will allow me to do software updates on the bike?
Will they allow me to unlock the bike after the 650 break-in period?

Love my GS911 WiFi. Essential in my opinion if you are planing to work on your XR. It does not allow you to do BMW Motorrad updates. Those have to be done at the BMW Dealer.

Yes, the 911WiFi can allow you to get ride of the rpm restrictions that are present during the break in period. It is my understanding that other services are done at the BMW Dealer after the break in period is completed.

Best,
Doc
You cannot do software updates only the dealer can. The Gs911 is the best tool but I would waste the extra money on the wifi version just get the USB version.
Yes you can unlock the Rev limiter after like 323 miles with the GS911.

May want to bite the bullet and have a dealer perform the first service. I remember a post about voiding the warranty if the rev limiter is removed prior.

Mac and mobile require WiFI version. Either way get the one w/the ODBII connector. One less cable unless your bike is older.

He asked, so I informed him. Yes, I would take it to dealer for first service.
I have the Wifi version of the GS911, but I just use my laptop with the USB cable anyway. Dont use Mac or Mobile phone but others might, good point!
Where would I find a shop service manual for this bike? The GS911 or Motoscan is just part of the equation.
Why get the USB over the WiFi version?
The only reason is if you want/need to save few bucks.
Thank for the heads up on the diagnostic tools GS911 and Motoscan.

My next question is actual hand tool kits for the bike. As in the toolkit that comes with it is a joke. Is there a specific tool kit for this bike that would include a way to remove the wheels so you could get a tire replaced while on the road?

Another thing is disconnecting the exup butterfly or possibly removing the huge square can after the narrow band O2 sensors to get a better exhaust note?

I would recommend checking the GS forums. Those guys seem to carry everything.

This is the only "BMW kit" that I have found. I'm sure there are less expensive versions but the listing should give you an idea of the size tools you may want in a kit.

This is what Akrapovic offers...

This is my K84 after I replaced the collector and exhaust. I like it. I painted the the collector using hi-temp BBQ paint, a trick I learned for hiding my BMW exhaust. Akrapovic doesn't offer a K84 header, so header and cats are original.

They are on crack for the price on that tool kit.
Took my then new R1200s to the dealer for first service, believing that doing otherwise would void warranty (wrong). The next time I changed the oil filter I found two o rings on the oil filter. The idiot left the first oil filter o ring stuck on the engine case. So much for BMW “experts”. This was the dealership in Little Rock, Arkansas.
I‘m a 45 year airline mechanic, have a gs 911 and think I can handle my own basic maintenance, I removed the rev limiter myself at the proper mileage. I lived with the 125 mph restriction, no prob.
I have both Motoscan and GS911 wifi. The GS911 is my much preferred hardware as I can do the diagnostics on Laptop or iPhone.

Paulie,

I looked for a BMW dealer in Little Rock and did not find one. Is there a dealer there?
My buddy gas the GS911 and we use it for multiple bikes and it is indispensable!
