2020 S1000RR BrenTuning issues ..

So i recently purchased a brentuning tuner and went with a Stage 1 Flash, everything went smooth until i took the bike out for a 1st ride on a 32 degree Celsius (89F) day. I started the bike let it warm up and gave it a quick rev and it seem to just stop at 4000 rpm and wouldn’t come down at all. I turned the bike off and back on and gave it a rev and it seemed fine. I then took the bike out for a ride and noticed every time i brought the bike to a stop at a red light or stop sign it would continue to do the same thing and stay at 4000rpm and a few times it would be stuck at 8000rpm until i turned the bike off and then back on again. I also got a coolant temperature warning. Bren has been amazing through this whole process and sent me two more tunes and the second one they actually loaded my Ecu file into their bike and custom tuned it which helped quite a bit but the issue persisted less severely. I feel bad constantly emailing them about this issue and I’m wondering wether or not I’m doing something wrong on my end. I did everything exactly how they said for flashing the bike. My bike is 100% stock other than frame sliders and a fender eliminator. Could it be that i need a after market exhaust (which i should have July 31st) or maybe something in the system i should adjust ? I just want to make it clear I HAVE NO ISSUES WITH BRENTUNING WHATSOEVER. They are working hard to fix this and haven’t showed me otherwise, I’m simply looking to see if anyone has had this same issue and if it was fixed what they did to get there. Any input is appreciated.

Your bike is under warranty. I would take it back to BMW, and have them run diagnostics on the entire bike. Don’t tell them about having flashed it. Usually, there are code and micro code updates available, which, during the updating, remove all flashes and revert the programming and the new settings back to the BMW defaults. Ride your bike and see if the problem(s) that you describe herein come back. Let me know…

Update... So Brentuning had me reset the handheld device and sent me two more tune files and they both seem to be working well, no more RPM issues. I tested both of them on a 30 minute ride each and everything seems good. I’m going to be taking the bike out for a few more rides in next couple days and get some testing done in different riding conditions. I also want to say that their customer service has been nothing short of amazing, i would get reply’s within 20 minutes. They also never had me feeling like the issue wouldn’t be resolved, my only concern was how long the process would take being that we have a limited riding season here in Canada. Overall as of right now i would definitely recommend investing in the tuning device if you have 2020 S1000RR.

Hi there, I know a bit old thread but I am new to the bike. How's the bike running, did you run into any issues again?

Though I am very glad they worked it out with you and addressed all your concerns, this is why I think a "cookie cutter" ECU flash is ok and not for everyone.

How does a bike in Southern California compared to Colorado (high elevation) or New York react to the same tune? Altitude, humidity, fuel quality and etc play a major factor in all of this.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but since this bike has wide band O2 sensors I was under the impression tuning is a little different from other bikes. I believe they target an AFR (lambda?) and the ECU adds fuel as necessary(within a set range). That’s how their E85 tune is able to compensate for differing ethanol contents as it can vary from station to station. I’m not 100% sure if it would be able to compensate for that level of elevation, but when you purchase the tune they ask you several questions about your bike’s mods, type of riding, ect. so I’d assume they would take your location’s DA into account. Again, I could be wrong, I’m sure someone can/will correct me if I am. I personally haven’t tuned my bike yet, this is just what I’ve gathered from my research.

Have the changed anything from the stock, i.e. header/can? If so, noticed anything unusual?
