In my experience, the 2015 is the best of the current generation.

Why? I’m looking at adding a 2015 to my stable.

The 2015 and the 2016 are pre Euro 4 European emission standards and have a bit better performance, as well as a smaller Cat. I dislike the giant RR decal on the side of the 2016 (yes trivial, but a preference. The 2015 boy racer RR on the tank can easily be covered by tank grips).

Well, no way a bike will have a smaller cat than the S1000R 2014-2016 bikes:laugh::laugh:

Seriously though, first gen bikes have bigger cat and smaller muffler and 2017 onward bikes have smaller cat and bigger muffler.

I'm not qualified to say which is the best year, but I would guess it's easily the 2016 models. I'm heavily biased in my decision.

But I will also note that:
the 2015 was the first of the Gen 3 models (obvious) giving BMW a chance to see its faults and fine tune their production cycles to ultimately produce the masterpiece we all know as 2016. The '16 was also before the mandated EU4 update so it was safe from that hideous cat that ate into the engine's fairing (moment of silence). The brains of the '16 ECU is easier to alter than the following 17/18 models.

Now, will someone cut me down to size?
