I bought my 0 miles leftover '15 back in April from Sportland motorsports in Urbana, IL. I did the first oil change at 550 miles and put Amsoil in. The dealer did the rest of the 600 mile service.
The bike developed a light ticking noise at about 2000 miles. At 2900 miles it became overbearing. I took it to Countryside BMW on July 19th because I don't have a trailer, and I didn't feel comfortable riding how it was all the way back to the dealer.
They got it apart a week later and told me that both lobes on both cams over cylinder one had accelerated wear, along with the followers.
They ordered new cams, which came in just this past Thursday, and when my wife called today to get an update, they told her they forgot to order the shims! So there's another week... I asked her to ask them if they changed the oil, and they told her that would be about $160, but they could maybe knock 10 off of that. Gee, thanks...
They also told her that it might have been caused by the non-BMW oil ?
The biggest problem is that there is no communication. I have to call every couple days to find out what is going on.
I'm afraid to ask if they did a compression check, and they haven't told me how worn the cams/followers are.
Has anyone else had these kinds of issues with service depts.? And, If so, how did you deal with them? I don't want to get indignant with the guy who's got the internals of my bike in his hands.
Thanks!
