Veering off a bit (sorry @Outta Control
), I met "skeleton leathers" and Tray Batey back in 1996 when American Suzuki was providing free track instruction with purchase of a new GSX-R through Team Suzuki Endurance AKA TEAM HAMMER.
My buddy George had bought a new 1996 750, so I tagged along to Summit Point.
So much fun listening to them tell stories back and forth about their escapades.
The one that stuck with me was Aldana talking about crashing once while near the front, on the first lap or second of a race at Riverside (? Somewhere that's not immediately familiar to me, Ascot?).
He was pissed at himself, but unhurt. He went on saying he laid "perfectly still", as it was a somewhat innocuous area (if there is such a thing on a "live/hot" racetrack) hoping/wishing/praying for a redflag.
He got it, was able to join the restart and finish on the podium.
