2017 Catalic Converter Heat

Hey fellas,

Just switched to S1000RR. I love it. I have stock exhaust and at 65 degrees outside if I'm in town, it gets extremely hot. What are some solutions for this?

Thank you

Replace it! Unfortunately it is the nature of catalytic converters.

It's weird. I heard of that complaint a lot prior to buying my '17. I ride mine and never feel any real extra heat coming my way....no different from all my other bikes I've had. Of course, if I were to touch near the pipe or on the frame...it'd be hot...but I don't feel any extra heat while riding. I never really even think about it and my legs don't hit any metal while riding.

I HAVE painted the cat with the VHT FlameProof matte black paint, but that was just for cosmetics...doubt it does anything for heat. I also have an Austin Racing slip on, but that's after the cat.

I had the OEM exhaust back on my R for a while, whilst I don't have empirical measurements, I can tell you that it felt lot hotter with the OEM(cat) exhaust, and full Akrapovic. I did also notice that the fan did not run as often with the full akra on.

Solution: Don't...I repeat...don't...ride in town. That's what scooters are for.

FWIW...my '17 gets hot if I absolutely, positively have to ride in urban traffic (rare). It's normal...

This is what you need to do. Full Akra system from @MotoMillion

Then get @BMW_388 to do an HP power unlock

Plus, you'll save 20 lbs with a full akra exhaust!
Getting rid of the stock exhaust was the best thing I have done to my bike!
