If you bike is out of warranty and you need to buy just the switch part, I have several on hand all brand new. $100 shipped .. BMW does not sell just the switch part that is defective. they want you to buy the EWS and the switch part. that is about $185 and you have to wait on it from BMWAG. USA dealer cannot program a EWS4 module. I can, but there is no need for you to have a EWS4 to fix the issue. Its just the switch part that has the defective nylon push button that is causing the problem.

But in all seriousness, this would of course happen to me when the dealer is closed for the next two days, further delaying my downtime. I guess this is one way of making me focus on my school work!

Guess the fix for this common issue is coming out of my pocket.
If you have a 2016, should be covered under warranty?

Yes, it would have been covered by the factory warranty… if it had happened 2,501 miles sooner. Just my luck that it happened afterwards though haha 🙃

Extended warranty is a great idea if you plan on keeping the bike.

This just happened to my 2015 s1000r... very disappointed and just out of warranty now. I'm a long time member of i-BMW and S1000r UK forums but found your post here so I signed up to send you a message. Any chance you can help me out with the switch part? Thanks for posting all the details on the solution on here!

Totally agree with both of you. I've been a member of many forums, and I've paid to support them, for the last 11 years. I'm on GarageJournal, NASIOC, S1000r.co.UK, iBMW, diyma, autogeek, VFRWorld/discussion, triumph rat, ZRXOA, etc etc etc (all with the same username, fwiw). I have always appreciated the members that go out of their way to provide solutions to others and share it on the forums.

I followed up on this post specifically to help promote BMW_388 for helping me out instead of just keeping it through PMs.

Took the bike to work today, what a great feeling to be back on the bike!!
