Dayyum....Got My Break-in Limiter Removed Today

Posted a month ago that I picked up a ďusedĒ 2017 with 1,111 miles on it.....didnít mention at the time that it just had a new motor put in when the original owner traded it in due to a valve issue. So I got to do the motor break-in on this one

Well, got the 600-mile service done today and removed the break-in limiter.....whoa!

On the freeway home there was some Saturday noon traffic, so limited space to play. With some traffic following at 75 mph, could only drop down from 6th to 4th and tried to get the tach to 10k......

Couldnít, as in a short 4th gear blast and one upshift I was at 113 mph....and still only at ~9000rpm

Had a couple of uphill 2nd-to-4th gear blasts near home....what a machine! Smooth as butter....and faster than anything Iíve ridden in over 22 years.

Iím 62 years old....itís gonna take a lot of concentration and luck to stay ticketless

After a short lunch and rest....I went for another short spin. Seem to always come back to my driveway with a bigazz grin on my face......

Are these bikes really RPM limited with the ECU?

That's a shame because a proper break in starts at 0 miles...even my V4 was not limited (though it has a specified 1500 mile break in which consisted of less than 6000 rpms or so).

Congrats on the bike, it seems like you probably got a good deal on it if it had just had a motor swap @ that age.

Yes. Limited to 9000rpm until first service.

Welcome to the forum. I remember when I first rode mine with Rev limit removed. Hit the top of those little hills that wheel is coming up over 100mph 😆

I actually never quite tested that 9000 during break-in, thought it was the 7000-7500 when the tach light came on

So, reaching 9000 yesterday was new to me

Correct, comes on a 7k, but that can be set in the Setup menu at any time, and is not really related to the break in limiter.

I'm going to take the time to possibly ruin this thread by stating my opinion: there should be no rpm limited breakin period as I advocate for a HARD break in from mile 0.

Hardly a new thought.

A search will direct you to the multiple treads where break-in preferences have been discussed.
