Question Water Temp. Sensor

Hi All,

I Just bought a 2011 S1000rr, while purchasing the bike I noticed following issues,
cluster was not displaying water temperature, a friend of mine had GS-911, I checked for Codes and it showed me 3.

1. Exhaust server
2. exhaust can something(I dont remember)
3. Water temperature sensor.

first 2 were there because of Full Akraprovic system,

except for mentioned issues, all the remaining function were proper,
I thought I can get this issue Fixed easily,

Today I took the fuel tank off and saw a Metal pipe with a welded bug, on the top that there was sensor connected to it,

Cluster ..

ECU

I tried to Search for service manual for free I failed,

1. As I have made two arrows in the first picture(red, green), I want to know which one of these sensor is water temperature sensor?
also what part has been replaced by that metal pipe??

2. is this the cause of Cluster not showing Water temperature?
I think the Fan is also not turning On,....

Thanks

SB

I'm going to guess red arrow because the sensor has to be on the engine side of the thermostat. Looked at the parts fiche but it was no help. Fan inop could also be because of the temp sensor.

Thanks for the Quick Replay,

Your saying that One sensor(red arroW) is controlling Fan , Cluster temp. and sending water temperature level to the ECu ?

Can you please give me a link, from where I can buy the water temperature sensor?
2011 S1000RR

what about the Green one...?

"while purchasing the bike I noticed following issues"

I would have aborted the mission at that point and spent money elsewhere.

I hope you get it fixed, is that welded bung a custom engineered, home made modification?

Maybe you could replace that section of parts with OEM?

Good luck, I hope you don't encounter any other issues....

I'm not absolutely certain, but the green arrow one and the piece of pipe look like an add on, not BMW equipment. I've never seen that on any S1000 RRs or Rs. The sensor at the red arrow can be purchased at Max BMW by email,

13 62 1 433 076 TEMPERATURE SENSOR WATER/OIL $44.80

All you need is a new lower rad hose, it should go directly to the lower connection on the rad from the thermostat housing. Somebody cut it shorter to install that piping. Good luck, and come back if you need assistance.

I would presume that if it has a fault code and is not showing the temperature in the dash then the sensor needs to be replaced. It is the one with the red arrow in your picture.

And a new lower rad hose would allow you to remove the pipe, it looks like they cut the hose to do the installation. Good luck, come back with more questions if you need to.
