Default Whats in your spares box for racing

After doing and totally enjoying a race weekend not so long ago, jumping back on the bike after a long time of not much riding at all ... work etc

Realised that I need to build up a spares list again...

Whats in yours or what would you get without buying a second bike or have you bought a spares bike?!? haha

The list can certainly be long. I started with clip-ons, rearset parts, radiator, and all kinds of misc. nuts and bolts. Levers would be good too. Then I went to a "B-bike"... so if anything happens, I know I have one of everything or just ride the B-bike. Also carry a spare helmet and gloves. Don't have a spare suit or I'd have one of those in the race trailer too.

I've got the basics so far..

Clip ons
Rear Sets

Need to build up the stockpile of various nuts n bolts

Also have to get a spare set of levers
Pair of spare wheels

Then theres the rest! Might as well look at getting a B bike. Dont think I have the budget to mirror all the mods on the main bike though!!

My B-bike isn't set up as nice as the A-bike... But the B-bike is still faster than I am In other words, I wouldn't worry about setting a second bike up w/all the same mods, not worth it IMO. What I've got in my two bikes, many people have in just one bike. I've got older R6's though (03's) and you can pick those up cheap... they run hard and they run long. There's also a LOT of data out there on how to set one up for the track.

I guess what I'm saying is that you can choose where to spend you money and in the end maybe you can afford two bikes easier than you think. I bought one of my R6's for $2K, the other for $2.5K... then I put about $1,700 in suspension (total for both) and they now both are set up with RaceTech in the fronts, the A-bike has an Ohlins shock and the B-bike has a Penske. They both came w/exhausts and PCIII's and were already safety wired.

A lot of great deals to be had out there!

My recommendation will be based on your budget. If you have the opportunity to bring a B bike and you feel like you'll need it, then great! Definitely I would go with the following:

Spare Exhaust Can
Mid Pipe
SPARE WHEELS ARE A MUST
Levers
Rear sets
Clip ons
Bodywork
Fasteners
Spare Brake Pads!! (Something forgotten that you get stuck without at times)
An extra change of oil and filter
Spare Brake Lines(get ripped off, rare but it happens)

That's all I can think of for now.. but a real race program is built upon frustration of forgetting things and remembering them for next time. (At least that's what I tell myself! )

Haha

Well right into the process of getting all the essentials.

Your list pretty much sums up the must haves.

I am a bit hesitant in buying wheels online, but in the process of doing so now.

All this stuff should be enough to make sure that anything minor can be fixed and have me back out.

Come to think of it...

2010 wheels will fit the 2011 yes / no?

people usually bring spares based on what they needed once and didn't have. Being a former TZ racer I am inclined to say bring anything you need to rebuild a bike, but when I move to the R6 I realized i was better off bringing a spare engine .

A simple rule of thumb is:

rear sets
clip ons
clutch gasket and clutch pack - if you race it will go off
nuts and bolts
levers
spare master brake cylinder + reservoir
a tube in case you bust the rear brake master cylinder reservoir
shims for valves
cloth and resine (to fix your body work, esp belly pan)
zip ties and duct tape

that's all I ever needed
