Default Safety wire oil drain

Maybe I've dealt with Suzuki's too long, but how do you safety wire the Torx drain plug?

Safety Wiring Oil filter, Drain plug and Filler.

As we have been doing track days I am slowly starting to safety wire the most important parts on the bike.

Oil filler is easy, drill 2 holes around 1/16 of an inch, then drill the clutch cover bolt closest to the filler. This one was aluminum!! It is the OEM Bolt!!

Oil drain plug is a little tricky as it is very thin on the edge, I used a smaller drill and used a Bridgeport Mill, a drill press would be OK as well. I use a larger drill to start the hole as a larger drill does not move around when starting.

Oil filter, Just a hose clamp here, pushed up against the boss on the engine assures it will not rotate loose.

When I changed oil last night, I didn't have my reading glass on, but I could swear that my oil drain plug was mounted flush against the oil pan (countersunk). However, like I said it I didn't have my glasses on. Looks like the next time I change oil, I'll be "firing up" the drill press.

When I first looked at your picture of the oil filter, I thought to myself there is no way it would pass tech where I race. Then I thought about it, there is no way it could rotate off either. That is pretty slick.

Sump Bolt - M12 x 15mm Pre-Drilled for Lockwire/Magnetic Rod - Pro-Bolt USA Hardware - Titanium, Stainless Steel, Aluminum Fasteners for Metric Motorcycles & Harley-Davidson

I use the above on my CBR 1000RR and it works like a charm. Too bad Pro Bolt doesn't (yet?) make one for the S1000RR.

Most racing orgs require just as Dan has done albeit with safety wire on the clamp itself so the clamp can't come loose. Keep searching for oil drain plug bolts that are pre-drilled, they are a dime a dozen! Next up consider safetying your radiator cap and any exhaust bolts that may come loose due to excessive vibration. Get all of your brake caliper bolts front and rear and fork pinch bolts. Don't forget to swap the coolant, I've used water wetter and distilled water for years. Take your time and buy some decent but cheap bits..lots of them!

Magnetic Oil Drain Plug M16 x 1.5 16mm - 1.5 M16x1.5 | eBay

or this one:

Pretty sure the second one will work since it's advertised for the S1000RR. The head seems to be quite tall compared to the OEM to make it easier for drilling.

I installed the dimple plug instead of the OEM oil drain plug. The dimple plug uses a 15mm wrench or socket and there's plenty of head for drilling holes and safety wiring.
