Default Getting Ready...a journey.

So, since i picked up the bike, and while deployed, i have been thinking about nothing but one thing TRACK-DAY. something i have never done with my Busa (no comments!) or any other bike I've owned.

HOWEVER, the buy in for the initial track day is pretty steep. One contributing factor was the cost of renting leathers. My trusty Icon leather jacket and boots, are not going to cut it (nor would i want them to in the event of a spill).

So the shopping began. Keep in mind at the beginning of this i was thinking, well there is one thing i will not have to buy and that's a helmet, cause i have that covered (peaceful ignorance).

Anyway, i must have logged countless hours looking for gear, then i came across Riders Discount.com. Actually TJ chimed in on a thread i started about 1 piece leathers. Long story short, after about 10 PMs to TJ i had to finally call him, and what can i say. He squared me away! I kinda feel like i purchased something and the attendant gave me the wrong change back (on the good side of wrong).

Oh and the helmet that i had covered. Well after reading the regulations, i strolled out to the garage and checked the ol trusty Shoei number 1, ppfft 5 years 4 months old, checked out the Shoei # 2 pffft 6 years 2 months old, then i went to the ol trusty HJC, i wont publish the date for the sake of embarrassment. lets just say i had to get a new helmet also.

Now i will look like the complete noobie with all new gear. but so what, it will be fun.

shopping list

A*s MX1 suit
A*s SMX-R Boots
A*s GP Plus gloves
Shoei RF 1100 headgear

*any and all spelling errors are the fault of Google Chrome for not underlining them in red.

William

Don't worry about it. I am a newb and had on a brand new 1 piece leather suit on my first full track day last week. My knee sliders still look new, except for maybe a few bug kills

Hell, here's a pic of me a week before the track day in the suit. I didn't know what to do with my hands

Me in the beginner group.

Have fun and enjoy it. It will be a blast. I found myself to be a little worn down just before lunch break. So make sure you take advantage of the breaks between runs.

Correction....that's actually the Kung Fu grip GI Joe!

All jokes aside...that's a very cool suit!

I'm really thinking of picking up a pair of those Knox Androids as well...do you use them for city driving as well or track only?

Yep I sure do wear them on daily riding. However, sometimes I need a break from them. I think I may clinch my left hand to hard and the backing of the gloves presses on my the back of my hand by my pinky and ring finger. This causes some minor discomfort. Other than that nice gloves.

Don't try... just work on Body Position and lines... get w/some of the control riders and they will be more than happy to follow you around too (or vise-a-versa) and work w/you on technique and lines. It'll come!

if you go for getting your knee down first, you'll learn bad body positioning. The better your body posture is, the more *upright* the bike is - the whole point of leaning in is to reduce the amount of lean for that given speed.

Then, to get your knee down, you have to go faster to warrant it. Basically, you need to be cranked over so far that it feels like you're lowsiding, and you drop your knee to the deck to check that you're not and that your lean angle hasn't exceeded the limits of the bike.

If you watch MotoGP, I've begun to notice that some riders just kind of "dab" the knee to confirm their lean angle. And sometimes, they lift it up out of the way because they're cranked over that far!!

We sort of hijacked his thread .

Being as it was only my 3rd time on a track, I was happy with getting those nipples off the tires and not laying the bike down.

I have a another track day May 8 at Rockingham, UK.
