Default *SPOILER* Australian Superbike

To add to my last post where Glenn Allerton won the first round of the Australian Superbike championship (Philip Island), he has now won also the second round at Symmons Plains.
So BMW currently stands at the top of the Aussie Superbike Championship. This on a very standard machine, very impressive.
It also posted the highest top speeds so far this year.
Off to a good start.

Our Superbikes, are very close to standard compared with WSBK bikes. Having said that they were only about a second off the WSBK boys at Philip Island.

The main front runners are factory efforts from Suzuki and Honda ( behind the BMW).

Ducati pulled out after 2010 as the 1198R is just not competitive in our series. They now compete in the ThunderBike series in Formula FX with KTM.

The Aprilias run around in the top 10, again only slightly modified.

There are no Kawasaki's on the grid so far in Australian SBK.

Yamaha race in a parrallel Formula FX series ( yes we crazily have two series), a privateer BMW is coming 3rd in that series behind the Yamahas'). The new Kawasaki's are in this series currently finishing around the end of the top 10.

To watch it look for it on SPEED.

Thanks for the info.

So, is there any special Auzzy talent prospects to look out for?
Like a future Stoner, Baylis, Corser, Doohan, Gardner??

Yes,

Josh Waters a young guy, had a wildcard entry on a Suzuki and qualified in the top ten and beat (embarrased) a number of "stars", he is off to Europe, Superstock or BSB I think, he now has some extra rides in 2011 WSBK, he is one to watch. The big guys in the paddock were talking about this guy.

Brian Staring was on the new Kawasaki (which would have needed a lot of work) filling in for Vermeulan (still recovering), he also qualified high up but fell back due to tyre issues or something. He is heading off to head up that effort in world Superstock. which seems to be the breeding ground. He is worth watching.

Of course you have Josh Brookes in BSB, he is a star back here.

And Broc Parkes could be a good bet for the Supersports.

There are a lot of good riders here, but the money and exposure is low, so it is tough. Stoner's family sold the farm (literally) went to Europe and lived in a caravan until he was "discovered". It is probabaly why Aussies go so hard when they get a chance.

Don't forget Mike Jones Welcome to mikejonesracing.com.au

Raced at Eastern Creek this weekend just gone and pantsed Kevin Curtain in Supersport, but, Mike was only on a Superstock spec bike!

In ASBK has won all 4 races to date this year in SS600.

Mike is the most likely to get to where Casey is I believe. Josh and Bryan may get full time WSBK gigs, but unlikely to get even a look in at MotoGP

Thanks that's good to know, I will watch out for him. I don't follow the FX rounds, a long story from an ex racer with the promoter. It's a shame the series is sort of split, it would be good to see those guys, and Kev the old man and the new young guns in ASBK.
