Default Sportbike Track Time or NESBA

I'm gonna take the bike over to Barber Motorsports Park, but I can't decide which agency offers more to a new track rider. Does anyone have experience with either?

I only have experience with STT, but with either organization as a new track rider it will be who you get as your instructor and how much he (or she) tunes into your weaknesses as a new track rider. The STT novice school covers the basics pretty well but it's the actual track time that will help you the most.

I have had nothing but good experiences with how STT runs events (no experience with NESBA). I personally feel that they run a good event, and I have never had any bad experiences related to them. I have never been to Barber (it is on the list!), and I think that the actual facility has a lot to do with the event too. I don't think that you can go wrong with either organization. Good luck and have fun!

I also have had nothing but great experiences with STT(none with NESBA). This was my first year doing track days and have learned a lot. They really seem to care about you being safe and learning. Barber is my favorite track...incredible!

Both organizations offer a great trackday experience. I am currently a track coach/instructor with STT, so I am a bit more experienced with their program (not to mention a little biased). STT offers a great novice program with an average instructor to student ratio of 5:1. Track time is important, but good instruction will allow the majority of riders to get the most out of the time available.

Check out the forums for both STT and NESBA, you will find good feedback (positive and negative) for each. Either way, Barber is one of the nicest tracks (and surrounding facilities) in the country.....you will certainly enjoy yourself.

I run beginner class and Nesba offers more freedom while still keeping track of you.

I'm on the west coast so I don't know either organization, but if you get the opportunity, take a Keith Code school (California Superbike School) for at least levels one and two. He will be on the East Coast....check his schedule. I went on my first track day two years ago (with a Yamaha 600) and then took his school and it was incredible what he did for me. His school is very structured...it is NOT an open track day....but I guarantee you will learn from him. The skill and confidence are incredible.

Good Luck!

I'd ridden extensively with both.

I'd go with NESBA, just for the fact that STT charges you a "gate fee," in cash, the day of the event, even if the track doesn't impose one - complete bullshit if you ask me. Also, the instructors at NESBA have far more collective experience, too many Joe blow instructors at STT. You also get more for your membership fee with NESBA.

However I've seen NESBA instructors do stoppies in the pits not 3 hours after the morning meeting where it was stressed to everyone no stunts. Neither of them are perfect.

I'm only gonna be able to catch 2 or 3 track days. I was set on NESBA for the rain insurance but they got rid of that this year unless you purchase the elite membership which is an additional $200 bucks..so that 5 dollar gate fee doesn't look so bad to me now. Plus due to both offering military discounts, they are within a couple bucks for the event cost.

Pros and cons of both have been posted. I like NESBA with the exception of the speed disparity in my class (permanent Intermediate). But that's going to happen to any organization running three classes, where you have the person begging and trying to get out of Intermediate along with those that just crept their way into it.

But... having ridden with both (and being friends with a lot of NESBA CRs) I think the amount of attention and instruction you can get from the NESBA crowd is a little better. And lord knows if they find out I said that I'll never hear the end of it
