Default Leathers

I need some advice on Leathers, I have been riding for years but, once I get this bike I want to goto my local sport bike school and learn to enjoy the bike to the fullest and legally. BUT, to do that I’ll need some leathers, something I have no experience on. I have some leather pants and jacket, but I would like to pick up a nice one piece suit. What do you guys suggest that’s nice but want break the bank? Having said that, my skin is worth the bank, so maybe I should rule out price.

What do you guys think?
Thank in advance

William

If you are looking for some 1 piece leathers then in my opinion the fit is far more important than the looks. For example I can not get any Dianese suit to fit me.
Also when you go to try the leathers on make sure you have plenty of time, take your boots and back protector with you (if you wear one). The leathers should be tight without restricting your movement. (Too loose leathers will allow the armour to move if the worst happens.) Go and sit on a bike, or even your own.
I find one piece leathers can also have different cuts. SOme are cut in a racing crouch, (and can be a little uncomfortable standing) Others are a slightly more relaxed offering a little more comfort stood up.
Talk to the assistants in the shop, they should be able to offer good advice, if you dont think they are go to somewhere else.

If you are a generally "standard" sized guy, then you will find a ton of choices out there to suit (no pun intended) your budget... Some of the best are:
Dainese
Kushitani
Hein Gerike
Alpinestars
Held
RS Taichi

I have a DAINESE W-Frame Estiva Perforated and it fits really well (6' tall and 210 lbs) and keeps me cool in the Summer...

Cheers...

I dont know if im average size, im 6' 1 220lbs? Looks like i just need to go try on a few different ones.

Forgive my ignorance, but what should i be wearing when i try them on? Do you usually ride with a t-shirt and shorts on with leathers or what?

For the SportBike world you're a giant.........Me too. 6ft 230lbs.

NJK Leathers is the way to go. Kelcy Gordon is a Former Professional Speedway rider and continues to ride bikes to this day. I have had 6 sets of leathers, his are by far the best I've worn.

He is in San Clemente California 949 481 3005

Default One more thing

If you plan to ever get out of your Leathers....you better wear UnderArmor long sleave and long leg light weight pants and shirt.

This is your HOT TIP of the day !

Very well stated. There are times even with Under Armor on I'm wrestling to get out of my suit (back armor always seems to catch).

I bought my Hein Gerick's from Sportbiketrackgear.com. They fit really well. They performed even better. I would still be wearing them, except the bio-harzard (deer entrails) when I hit the deer and they were cut off me.

When I was up again, I looked and they barely looked scuffed. Not bad for an 80 mph get off and sliding down the roadway.

I would have bought them again, but I got a great deal on Alpinestars.

I also have a Dainese two piece suit great for the fast Sunday rides. It's good for the track but is heavier than the one piece.
