Default Went to the 1/4 track for the first time

I didn't buy this bike to drag but it's fun to do. It was really busy so I only got a couple runs in.

First run was in slick mode with DTC on.

10.5 second
1.9 60'
139 mph

Second was race mode with DTC off

10.4 seconds
1.9 60'
137 mph

So yeah my launches blew. I was dropping around 8k but I think I need to drop higher and slip more. I think I'm going to just strap the front end next time.

What have you guys done and what is your preferred method for launching? Any tips?

I've been to the track once with mine and made about 10 passes. I ran 6 passes around 10.3 with 1.6-1.8 60ft times. I was running 142-144mph trap speeds. The track was really greasy and the temps were in the 90's. I had a little bit of trouble with wheel spin in 3rd and 4th and wheelies at the top of 1st but it was fun.

Wow, I would think you would be running faster with that 60' and trap speed; Do you think the track and temperature was the cause? The busa I ran against a few times was pulling a 9.5 with a 1.5 60' at 143 MPH.

How where you launching? RPM, mode, etc? Did you strap or modify the bike at all?

8000rpm launch in race mode. At about 10-11k rpm the front end was pulling up real hard and I'd have to blip the throttle at what I would guess is near the 60ft mark. I was running only about 25 psi in the rear tire so I may have been better off with more tire pressure for more speed but I still noticed some tire spin in 2nd and 3rd gear. I was running well worn race take offs for tires. For comparison a GSXR1000 with an extended swing arm was running consistent 11.5's and the a stock CBR1000 was running 11.9's... That was funny.

oosnoopy,

They just don't work well at the drag strip off of the showroom floor

Not sure if you have ever seen this?

:: DRAGBIKE.COM :: DRAGBIKE MAGAZINE :: BMW S 1000 RR US Press Introduction ::

But-- if you want to make a couple of minor changes, you can make them FLY!

I give some tips at the bottom of the link above. FYI: It turns out the stock gearing is ok, once you disable the slipper clutch.

Going to the strip this week to see how it goes, have gone down 1 on the front for Track days and with a pipe and PCV this thing is scary fast but launching it seems to be its achillies heel as on the street i ride in Slick mode as i find the pogo affect with the traction control to be horrible

How do you modify the slipper for the Strip as i just sold my 08 R1 track bike and did take that to the strip and the slipper was pig horrible to get off the line

Why/how does the slipper clutch affect drag launches?
