Default The Written-off Racer

I've purchased a salvage 2010 model and I'm turning it into a race bike

I thought I'd keep a record of my project as a guide for anyone planning on doing the same

Day 1 - get the beast home - bidding online without inspecting (oops didn't see that front wheel!) got it for a steal so I'm still safe!

be sure to check the tripple clamps, they bend very easy on these bikes

That cluster will not be cheap to replace, it has to be coded to the ECU by the dealer. At least it looks to me like it was damaged (missing?)

I got the cluster from racrx451 - good guy and he looked after me on price and lots of feed back and fast delivery

funny thing was the dash arrived from him in the states and there was a BMW australia sticker on the back

No it just plugged in and worked no need for a trip to the dealer... the klms on it flash but nothing a piece of black tape won't fix

I've done my sums and I think I should be on the track with race glass, stands, tyre warmers and some good used slicks for $8500.... keeping in mind that these bikes are like $24k new in Australia - so that's what I call a steal ... I should have people tripping over themselves to take it off me when its time to sell it

Well about a week back I though Yeah she'll be right... pulled out the forks they looked ok... sent the front wheel and got it repaired and trued by Laurie Alderton at smithfield in Sydney

I got the wheel back and hadn't checked the triple clamps... I went to put the front end back in and they are way out so I am stripping it back to a rolling chasis, just forks, frame, engine, subframe, swing arm, no electrics, no plastic so he can align the whole bike front to back....

I'm hoping its only the triple clamps but better to get the whole thing checked now while it is pulled down... This will hold up the project as he isn't back until Mid Jan.

I have plenty to do to keep me going while I'm waiting

Default Fairings Arrived

I went cheap and chinese with the fairings... they arrived today and you know what they ain't too bad for the money $428USD delivered to my door... I'd get two sets of these for the price of a name brand... and since I haven't been on the track in 7 yrs I've gone ahead and ordered the 2nd set... Good to have a backup set sitting and ready for my first crash
