Post Deals Gap Trip June 10-13*DONE*

Well, it's that time a year again to take a trip to deals gap(June 10-13). Went down last year for the first time and had a blast! Me and another S-1 rider will be riding down from Louisville, KY there is a big group of other riders going down also, but I would like to have more S1000RR there. I'm posting this now so if any of you want to plan a trip down with us, you have a lil time. We are staying at a place call two wheel inn. Its in Robbinsville NC. Hope to see some of you there!

I'm interested. Let's get it going.... I need a mini vacation and that's a good place to unwind.

I'm very interested in this. Is this in conjunction with a sportbike(all brands) weekend? It would be awesome to really get the word out for all S1 riders to show up. The following weekend is AMA Superbike at Barber Motosports so I need to plan accordingly(wife approval).

Yes, The group that I'm going down with is from a Local website called Louisville-sportbikes.com, its a local site with sport bike riders from around my area. but as long as we get enough S1 riders we could do our own thing. I just dont know my way around down there and I depend on a few of my other buddies that have been going down there for years. but we could work out something before we go down if needed.

Haven't been there since 2005, might be time to do it again. Usually go to Americade that time of year but may have to miss it this year. Will see what I can work out with the boss(and my employer too)

Default Deals Gap-

I live about 75 miles away, and would be interested in meeting up one of the days you mentioned. If you haven't been there in a while, they have made many paved pull offs for slower riders and cars to use. The locals are very considerate about using these. Now if only the Harleys wouldn't try to block the road at 15 mph until the straight then go WFO there, it would be nirvana!

The best time to make runs is before 10:00 am or after 6:00 pm, when the cruisers, harleys, and 4 cylinder car squids are not there yet or are going home.

I went up several times on weekdays last Aug. and Sept. and got there by 7:00 and made several runs before the crowds increased. On a weekend you really have to be careful of the "enforcement" agents, as they are more strict then. If you stay on your side of the double yellow you are less likely to be ticketed even if you are going over the 30 MPH limit. (but not if you are really hauling the mail!)

I hope you all have a great time!

Since they lowered the speed limit to 30MPH and seem to have a poo-poo w/ a radar gun on every other curve, running the dragon is like standing in a line at Disneyworld. There are many other great roads all throughout the area that you will find much more to your liking. If you've never ridden the Dragon, do it but if you have been there-done that recently (since the lower speed limit), skip it. The post above is correct, long line of Harleys going 15 mph then they twist it wide open on the straights and you get the pleasure of riding amongst loud oil spitting chromed dinosaurs.

I never noticed the po-po's but agree with you on heavy traffic impeding a good ride. I found the 129 to Skyway loop a nice ride, ontop of the other hundreds of miles around the area some good roads to burn gas on. It didn't matter if I got lost, it was all good riding.
