Default 520 conversion too weak?

Will the chain and sprocket 520 conversion be to weak for an aggressive rider on the s1000rr?

I don't think so...
i have this on my R1 which make good power....
agressive rider/trackdays with IT and lot of wheelies....
never had any problem
But I will probably go back to 530 next time I change It.... honestly.. the benefit of having a 520 is so minimal.......

not to say that my 520 Aluminum Vortex rear sprocket can't live more than 5000 miles

You'll be fine, just make sure you get a top notch chain.

My opinion is that it is marginal reduction in strength margins for a marginal reduction in weight. For the average guy, probably not worth it, but for someone at the limits, might be.

On the S1000RR, I would never skimp on chains/sprockets or put off replacement, regardless of chain size.

+1

The DID ERV3 520 chain is one of the strongest 520s on the market. Mostly all of AMA superbike riders use 520s with no issues and you know those bikes are putting out massive HP.

lol what!?!? you guys are ******* crazy!

A DID 520 and vortex sprockets on our race SV's and GSXR600 lasts 2 race days before needing a replacement due to stretching of chain and wear on sprockets.

On street they'll probably last 10k.

On LITER bike they would get chewed up instantly. Every 2 weeks you'd need to tighten your chain.

Hell right on the box is the rating: up to 1000cc/100hp

And the 1000cc is for cruisers that put down < 100hp!

Yes AMA riders use the chains, because they are replaced with every race as consumables.

What kind of DID are you running?

I'm running a 520 (ERV3) on my somewhat built 600 race bike and been doing so all season. Not stretched yet... still good as new.

Interesting comments. We have a number of customers with 180-200 hp bikes that get 10k street miles out of their DID ERV3 without issue. We put well over 1500 "race" miles on a DID ERV3 chain (190hp Yoshimura superbike) without issue in 2010.
