sparkplugs
so i'm not great on maintenance, I do the oil and filter every thousand miles or so...both bikes have about 2k miles on them, all freestyle.
noticing lately that under load in high rpm's that the bike sounds like it's gonna blow up...but it doesn't obviously. usually does it in 2nd and 3rd gear when i dump the clutch hard and do a big burnout.
my buddy told me i need new plugs...any thoughts? the bike runs fine as soon as i back off the throttle and it's doing it when the bike is hot or not so hot. been noticing that it's been getting worse as teh miles rack up.
other than the clutch spring bolts backing out, i've had zero issues so far...

really?
when your doing your burnouts u have no wind noise and the engine and exhaust noise will be very loud, ill doubt as u say it sounds like blowing up u just u dont usually hear the bike this way, unless its all you do on your s1000rr....
and your mate saying u need new plugs is just dopey..........

i know what the bike sounds like and its 'gurgling' almost...less power and a distinctly different noise, almost like the bike is limiting itself to avoid damage? i've ridden a lot of bikes and blown up my fair share...it sounds pretty much exactly like the bike is shitting out and seizing up.
it has occurred more often as i put the mileage on.
...also will not rev out to the limiter while i have it hammered.
ps. i freestyle so burnouts are common and the bike gets hot although i usually shut it down and cool it off after it gets over 250 degrees.

You mention that the coolant temp gets over 250F, If (notice I say if) the oil temp gets 240F or above AND you are using conventional oils, then you could be doing engine damage. Dyno based oils don't last long at those temps. A very high quality syn oil will be o.k. At 250F or so .....

i run the best spectro oil they make and change it pretty regularly...
really only does it under load in 2nd or 3rd gear.
so you think i'm crazy thinking it could be the plugs? bout time for a change anyway

sounds like the bike is destined for an early grave to me and changing the plugs is prolly a waste of money, try some race fuel.....

Hey Chris,
You have a GS-911 diagnostic tool? It's not in "limp" mode is it that requires a ECU reset? I don't know much more, but could search for that.

both bikes run strong other than once or twice a show doing this on big hole shot burnouts under load...
just passed sandia yesterday, hell bent to get to the coast though...nj motorsports part next monday though for a ducati rev trackday.
not in limp mode and the one bike's gauges have no engine light on or anything...the practice bike...well that's a different story.
guess i'll try plugging it in or maybe isolating when the problem occurs...and save teh plug change for a last resort...i've never heard anythiung like that myself but my buddy is a jerry rigger and has random knowledge, haha

just for the info...never swapped the plugs bc as soon as i removed the tank i saw what was causing the problem and like an idiot, i had seen it before. bedause i smash my tank in so i can sit on it, it was pushing against the top fuel rail going into the airbox. this caused the rubber o-ring to partially pop out and when i was giving the bike full throttle under load, it forced fuel OUT of the proper channels.
i've removed teh airbox so many times that i stripped out the screws that hold the fuel rail onto the airbox (keep an eye on this if you ever remove all that stuff)
as for the other bike, i narrowed it down to 'gurgling' only under extreme load under extreme temperatures. doing shows, the bike tends to get hot as there is no air flow, so when the bike is blinking 240 degrees at me i usually keep riding until about 250 and then cool it off. i believe the computer is smart enough to NOT let me pin the bike to rev limiter when it is so hot.
thanks for the comments.
