Default Gearbox issue or just the way it is?

Anyone else find the bike almost impossible to find neutral when the gearbox is mega hot?
I recently did a track day and first notice it then, but on almost every hard ride out since, it is nigh on impossible to get neutral and the box just clunks between 1st and second. The lever is also extremely tight.
Key the thing off (in gear) and it is back to normal in a matter of minutes.

Tends to be more difficult when new, is easier after some miles. I have found it easier to sometimes shift it into second and just ease it down to Neutral when newish. 2nd one i've broken in, so it seems to be a common occurance.

My bike has the same issue with the gear box. If I miss going to neutral from first I just simply go to second and then down to neutral. My bike only has about 700 miles should get better with time and more miles. I'm taking it out on a track day in about a month see how the bike works out on track.

I have one of Mark springs on mine. The one thing I noticed straight away is how much easier it was to find neutral. From 1st or 2nd.

I too find neutral to be pretty elusive. Also, shifting 2-1 sometimes it'll spend a couple seconds in 1st then pop into neutral...

Adjust the lever freeplay with the engine cold. A couple of mm. When the engine heats up it should feel looser. If it doesn't you may have some other problem. There is an adjuster on the clutch basket as well but the cover needs to be removed to access it of course. I have seen one where the locknut on the internal adjuster cam loose and the adjustment backed all the way out and the rider lost clutch use--no pull at the lever. Had to find the locknut in the oil pan and reinstall/adjust/and tighten securely.

Does you lever need to be adjusted constantly? With the engine at the same temperature--cold preferably.

If you are using the bike with the lever banjo tight--no freeplay--you are essentially not letting the clutch fully engage when under power and are possibly burning/wearing the plates.

Thanks for all the replies:

Couple of additional comments -

Bike has done 2500 miles
Engine cold, neutrals no issue.
Free play at lever is to spec.
Only when engine hot and plenty of gearbvox usage 1-4 hard thrashing it plays up.
Almost seems like the clutch is not fully dis-engaging when the lever is pulled in. I.e. it seems difficult to walk the bike backwards almost as if it is still dragging.

Key the bike off in gear, wait a couple of minutes and its fine.
