Default DTC light on

My DTC light sometimes stays on permanently after starting the bike and sometimes it goes off after the self-check like it should. The manual says the light indicates a DTC fault. I will be taking the bike to my dealer but am wondering if any other forum members have had similar problem.
The bike was purchased in January 2010 and has 13,000 miles on it now....

The light should stay on until you reach 8 mph or so.

I was aware of that, but sometimes it stays on permanently during a ride and occasionally I exceed 8mph...

Maybe clean the abs sensors...but if those sensors are used for both systems, then you'd think you'd get failure indicators on both systems...still, worth a shot.

Congrats on all the miles by the way....Swanny approves!

I got the same thing....

This did neatly coincide with the begining of June. I had a service message "May 2011" on start up. Is this just a way to get me into the dealership for a service???

No. It is not related.

Could it be that the ABS/DTC button is failing? Perhaps it is sometimes stuck in the depressed position and therefore it is shutting off the DTC. Not sure if this is viable. Just thorwing it out there. Can you change or turn on or off the ABS as well. I would try that next time it happens. Hold the button down and see if it can change it.

I'm having intermittent problems too. Sometimes the engine light stays on. I can usually turn it off, hold 10 seconds and restart. This weekend I got the ABS light, which appears to be permanent. No physical problem with the brakes, i.e. leaks, etc. I'll call dealer tomorrow when they're open...

Does anyone know whether the BMW service tool (GS-911) would help figure these things out?

Took the bike in for evaluation. The front speed sesnor was loose, sending confusing data to the ecu. The problem was big enough that the ecu needed to be reflashed, as it wouldn't clear properly. All OK since then.

Suggest we all routinely reconfirm the things are tight...

Is the front speed sensor the thing on the front left brake caliper ?
