Default Good/Bad idea?

Toying with the idea of fitting nitrous to the bike to boost the top end to over that 200 mph mark. Know you can do the rear sprocket change as the cheaper option, but dont want to lose the acceleration. So what are peoples thoughts on this? Does it put undue strain on the engine? And if i do this am i going to have to pass a list round to all those wanting dibs on internal organs? Lol.

Reeeeeeeeeally! Magic sprockets hah! lol...

In a nutshell, the name of the game is here is HP and aerodynamics. Drag plays a huge part after 180 or so. You will need over 200 RWHP to get to 200mph!

Maybe SPC is under the misconception that the bike is speed limited? That seemed to have been a pretty common idea around these parts not so long ago, in which case a sprocket might have made a substantial difference, yes?

And if the engine winds out at 192 mph @ 14,000 rpm he'll still need a sprocket even if he's making 600 hp...

Was not aware that the bikes speed was limited. Know that most bikes are but for some reason didnt the bmw was. Was just throwing the idea out there. Cheers for the info

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The bike is NOT speed limited. It will pull full revs with enough road and an aerodynamic rider position. The speedometer, however, will only read up to 186 mph.

My point was that a sprocket could make a difference if the bike was speed limited in top gear, depending on the method used to limit the top speed, of course!

If you're going to add HP in a quest for more top speed, you'll need a smaller rear sprocbket or larger front anyway, I believe.

Just so that I am crystal clear on what you have said:

There are no speed restrictions on this bike whatsoever. From what I have been "told" the bike hits 299Km/h in 5th gear at around 14K rpm. So if the person doing that had changed to 6th it would have continued to accelerate past 299Km/h however the speedometer would only show 299Km/h regardless of how fast you were actually going?

Hmmmm, I think that person needs to put a GPS on their bike next time they head out......

Yes, your restatement is correct. No restrictions like the old voluntary 300 KPH on Japanese superbikes. The speedo stops at 186 MPH (299 KPH?) but the bike will accelerate beyond that speed as long as you have enough road and a rider with a small enough aerodynamic profile.

There are a couple of YouTube videos of folks who recorded their top speed runs using GPS on their S1000RR. This old one from onearmbandit is still my favorite. Right up there with "On Any Sunday!" It ought to be ten minutes of pure terror but other than the screaming engine, you'd think it was an easy Sunday evening jaunt--it's really that smooth. He may only have one good arm, but he's got a huge basket of huevos.

Video of BMW S1000RR top speed runs 309 km/h (192mph) on GPS!!

I think Koby posted a nice 190 MPH video, too!

If you need a better explanation, please look up some of Nigel's posts on the subject. He or one of the other engineer-types heree can explain it a whole lot better than I.
