Default Help some performance ?'s please!

Please bear with me....

Is it bad to use the quick shift for all upshifts at any RPM city driving or Hard open stretch use?

My shift light comes on at roughly 7k-9k rpms am i damaging anything shifting above this and whats a realistic rpm to set this at?

It happened twice using the quick Shift under what i thought was max throttle going from 2 to 3 and it stuck in 2 after i thought i clearly engaged 3... is this just driver error in not realsing the foot shifter fast enough?

Most of all i was lined up with a 2001 r1 akra full exhaust and PC?, we where rooling 35-40 i was in 2 and seemed like i was getting smashed on, do i have not enough bike to beat this bike or any other r1.... or is my rider experience need much work.

please excuse my novice approach, as this is my first sportbike that i owned but have been riding since i was 16 on various genres of bikes.

thank you!

At 35-40mph if I were serious about rolling on, I'd be down in 1st. He probably was... Wind that thing up to 10-11K, then roll on, then take a peak in your mirror and see how far back the R1 is

As far as the quick shifter, you can be full throttle using it or just "on the throttle. As long as you are giving it gas, you can use the quickshifter. 1st gear using the quick shifter is a little clunky, but 2nd through 6th is very smooth.

The shift light is only a reminder for you to change. You set it but it does not control what you do or any of the electronics!! If you have a stock bike you need to be changing at 13000 or so. Set the light there. Changing much before that you will be loosing drive. When you are doing roll-ons, make sure that you dictate what the terms are Get the revs up to 10 - 11k and then let her rip. If he has sprocketed his bike and you have not and he is taking you on the in second at 35mph, you are in sh1t street!!! Get him up to 65 or 70mph, then you have a chance as long as you can run far enough!

P.S. There is no point of using the QS unless you are on it. If you are tootling around, use the clutch. The QS is for banging through the gears when you are committed (obviously when you are doing roll-ons, you use it). But I don't use mine unless I want to really pull the cables!

Most bikes out there will get you on a roll on like that if they knew what they were doing and you were at 7K.

As far as 1st gear, if you have DTC and are running in Race mode, it'll control the front for you. It can start to porpoise on you though (front end goes up and down) as the DTC kicks in if you leave the throttle pinned. The other thing you could do is just let off a smidgen when the front gets light or just tap your rear brake lightly. The other option is to short shift it when the front end gets light.

If you're new to sport bikes, please be careful out there. Straight lining is fun, but the speed can sneak up on you quick and then if you're not experienced on what to do when it does, it can be ugly.

thank you!

7-9k seems really early for your shift light to come on... please don't take this the wrong way, but has your rev limiter already been removed... because if not, i can see the shift light coming on between 7-9k and i can also see you getting your a** handed to you by pretty much any sport bike in a straight line. just thought i'd ask...
