Default Checking oil level

Having checked my oil yest ( cold eng and up right ) i thought i'd double check in hand book to make sure it was 5 / 40 oil.
Then i read " run bike up to temp on a long run , then soon as back let idle for one minute and then turn off ignition "
Reading oil level when engine is cold will give a false reading .

?????
So is it saying you read the level when the engine is warm and as soon as i've turned engine off ??

It seems a very odd way to check the oil , but thats how i read it ? Am i going mad and have read it the wrong way ?

Sorry if this has been posted before

Nope, you're not mad. Check it warm per manual.
