Default Clutch malfunction on back straight

Sooo
i am taking the bike to the dealer but im also looking to see if anyone had this experiance

went to the track yesterday (NJMP) and coming off into the back straight i let her out and hit 3rd WOT and BAM my clutch slips out of gear and all you can hear is that clicking/clanking sound you get if you try to go into first at to high a speed. it happened while i was passing some one so all of a sudden im getting plowed up on cuz i lost all of my bike and i go toward the run off and its still clacking like its trying to get it self in gear...and then click....im back in third...now wtf? never even touched the shifter this whole event just in case my gear box grenaded it self. finish one last session but i sorta lost confidence because i don't want that happening mid corner.

anyone eles hear of this?

Same happened to me pal, relax. I was on the road at 220km/h, in 4th gear, and then suddenly CLANK, rpm gone to 2k, i stood like "????????????", pulled the clucth lever and started breaking slowly..meanwhile i could hear all those noises coming from gearbox. What i understood was

it wasnt nor in 4th or 3rth, it was in the middle of it (IF it is possible to happen), kicking all around waiting for you to kick some gear up or down

When bike did reach 100km/h, just kicked down and 3rd engaged, came back home riding normally, no noises, no problems, nor warning lamps. Well, ppl told me to engage "like a man" if you know what i mean, just use a bit more of strengh while switching gears, u know, to make sure that it REALLY engaged

You can go to your dealer and ask for a complete check in your gearbox/clutch, to see if you accidentally damaged anything...but i doubt you did.

It's not a clutch malfunction. It is what is called a "false neutral." Basically, and usually from not toeing the shift lever positively enough, your transmission can end up between gears other than 1st-2nd. It's called a "false neutral". If your engine speed is not matched to the required gear, up or down, you will get some nasty grinding in the gearbox. Most people will recommend to go for the next higher gear rather than going back down a gear. Either way, you should try to get your RPM's to where your engine will be matched to the speed you are travelling for the gear you are trying to select.

For instance, if you shift from 4th at 10k RPM to 5th, which might drop to 9k RPM and you hit a false neutral, keep the engine around 9k and toe up again to 5th. Or you may bring it back towards 10k and try for 4th. The higher gear choice will grind less.

No. Actually, the best thing for your bike would be to pull the clutch and slow down to a slow roll of a few MPH or so, then work it back into gear. On the track, you should signal and work your way away from the racing line until you get it into gear again. If you are on the road with a tractor trailer up your ass then cram it into the higher gear and keep going. If you try to ease the lever into position, you will get a lot of grinding and feel the resistance on your boot, like Neil Peart is playing a snare solo on your toes. Or you can smack it and get a short grind and some heavy clunking as you smash it into gear.

Recommend the Factory Pro spring upgrade. Makes false neutrals much less likely.

BMW should have addressed this, the gear selection is, in my opinion, way too sloppy. I have never had these issues before on any of my track bikes.

thats what i was thinking. but it shocked me because it popped out of third lol and at WOT needless to say i red lined pretty quick and bounced the rev limiter nice and good and BTW it works ha ha. I'm going Monday to have them go over it, i called and they said that under throttle the gearbox puts a positive ( up wards torque ) on the shifting lever just slightly ( kinda like a manual trans how you can feel accel and decel in the stick) and that the quick shifter may have thought i was trying to shift and pulled it out of third.
