Question Heli bars? heavy Bar ends? or both?

Hey everyone,

OK I have had my bike now for 10 months (4 with snow) and 4500 miles later. My bike is 99% done and the way I want it but now my question is

should I go with heli bars? a more relaxed ride would be nice.

OR

weighted bar ends? I do get a little vibration that causes my right hand to go numb.

OR

is it even poss. to do both?? trying to figure out if heavy bar ends with Heli's will hit the tank

any thoughts will help

Joe

I would do things in this order

1. Heavy bar ends
2. Tank Grips
3. Driven Gel Grips
4. Grip Puppies
5. Heli-Bars

I have the first four and my hands do not go numb anymore. They do tingle from time to time, but the difference is amazing.

it seems you have a couple of items you want to address (vibration and comfort). I'd address whichever bothers you most first. And then consider whether or not that is sufficient, before going the next step. For me, the vibration isn't really a big deal, but the longer distance comfort is, so I'm going to go heli bar first (still considering the Apex, but now based on a lot of the thread activity over the last week or so, I'm leaning strongly toward Heli bars).

Well other than getting older this girl is not that bad for comfort (my triumph t955 was a rack). I do some longer trips 500-600 miles so comfort would be nice plus I have read on other threads the Helis take away some vibes

Just looking for peoples thoughts who have already done. I did put on gel grips that help

The route shown below worked for this old geezer from both the comfort and vibration perspectives. I've read one shouldn't do such a thing to a pure sport bike like the SKRR, but it's mine and I'll do what I want . Offers plenty of leverage and seems to work as well as I'm capable of using on the street.

I would go with the Helis (which reduce vibration on their own) and a set of heavy bar ends (Throttlemeister- heavy versions) which will also give you a throttle lock benefit for slabbing it. Aftermarket gel grips would also aid in the overall comfort picture but with the above combination the stock grips work just fine for me.

Did you make up this package yourself or is it offered as a kit. I also do whatever I want with my cars and bikes.

I came to BMW from a 2009 R1, 2008 R1, 2006 MV, out of all these the BMW is the only bike I have had any issues with regarding hand comfort.

Vibration in the RH bar sending my hand numb after 15 minutes, I fitted Driven superbike grips and motovation bar ends---------sorted

I then found my wrists acheing after a couple of hours, if you look down at the angle of your wrists when your riding you may be surprised!

I fitted helibars, BUT in the 'as supplied' position using the locating peg they were too far back and too high, I dropped them down out of the locating peg and moved them forward until they were in the same plane and height as the original bars but flatter--------------absolutely perfect

I ordered them from:
Home - Streetfighter Store: 100s of Streetfighter motorcycle parts & accessories

If I remember they were somewhere on the order of $450 for the kit. There were some issues with fitment and we'll call it customer service that I eventually resolved, so if you're interested in this setup pm me and I'll send you a link to a long thread on the subject at another forum.

The end results are great and if I had to do another set it would be rather simple, as I believe I ended up being somewhat of a guinea pig as the SKRR was a new bike, and somewhat different than the normal Jap bikes and Triumph's the outfit has done apparently for several years.
