Default Hit a bump, bike popped out of gear??

I was riding the other day, I was in 4th, there is a speed bump like bump in the road (nothing crazy but decent bump) and I left off the gas before I went over it, slowly got back on the throttle only for my bike to rev and then bang back into gear. Anyone else experience this?

Not me I'm afraid. I know it's a long shot but I don't suppose you knocked the gear lever with your foot going over the bump?

The nature of a constant mesh transmission is that if the input and output shafts are spinning at just the right speed it is easier for it to "pop" out of gear. If you have positive throttle or decel it won't. Could have been that as you let off the throttle they matched at the moment you hit the bump and the jarring of the bump helped to knock it out of gear.

It is similar to holding the shift lever up with a little force and rolling off the throttle--without a quickshift--the gearbox will move to the next gear when the shaft speeds are correct.

Usually the speeds would have to be too slow for the gears selected to easily change. Say about 15-20 when in 4th.

Could be you barely hit the lever when the shafts were close to the right speeds and the shift drum moved--changing the gear or finding false neutral for a moment until you accelerated again.

I wouldn't say it is impossible, but I'm pretty confident that I didn't hit it. Also I've never "limp-footed" a shift and had it go out of gear and pop back into gear either if that makes sense. It's only happened once and this was the first time I'd experienced in my riding career

Ya know, I actually just started another topic about this. It happened to me twice now. Once I was on the highway, in 5th doing 80. Today I was in town doing 25-35 in 2nd or 3rd (can't remember). I hit a recessed manhole cover and the bike popped into neutral. I'm not sure anyone can figure this one out. I guess it's just safe to say, mind your P's and Q's better and avoid those bumps. Idk what else to say.
