Shift assist questions
Hi guys, I'm having some issues with my shift assist again, It works fine around 5-8k rpm but It don't seem to work at higher rpm, I'm not sure how much pressure i'm supposed to apply to the shifter cause i would think something will break if I keep forcing it too hard.. Is the pressure adjustable maybe? I just don't wanna break anything..thanks

Do you have stock rear sets or aftermarket? If stock then take it to the dealer and have them fix it for you. If aftermarket then check where you have the "throw" set at for the shift. If it is set to have a small movement to shift then it is harder to shift--more force but a smaller distance. I have Attack Performance rear sets and found that their "stock" recommendation was a little too difficult for my taste and moved it to a position where it is easier to shift but the distance to move the shifter is longer--you get used to it pretty quick.

Mine is starting to give me fits also. I'll be sure to see if I have any problems tomorrow at my track day.

I had a problem with mine not shifting at higher rpm last summer.
The dealer found a problem with the micro switch on the clutch lever being set in the wrong place, it wasn't actually the revs more the speed and vibration at high revs was causing the switch to deactivate the gear shift.

I still have the stock rearsets, and stock levers also, problem is that my dealer is over 100 miles away and I don't wanna drive there unless there's a serious problem, so I will take a look at the micro switch again and see if its off or anything.
There isnt any adjustment on it though since the holes are pre drilled on it.. its starting to really piss me off.

I have the same issue, the shift assist doesn't work at higher RPM or when I am accelerating at higher RPMs. Rolling off the throttle sometimes helps with shifting (without using the clutch). The issue was worse before my first 600mi service and the dealer applied a software fix that helped. But the issue still exists and I have kind of learned to live with it. I'll probably go back to the dealer again when I get a chance.

Yeah but if you're paying all that money for a bike then it shouldn't have dumb problems like this.. i love the bike but I've NEVER had any issues with my hayabusa or gsxr1000.. just sayin

I would suggest the issue is, at least partly due to the amount of time the quickshifter interrupts the ignition during the shift. At higher RPMs and at higher acceleration, the interrupt duration needs to be longer. I have the same issue, and have a dealer appointment this week. I plan to ask them to increase the ignition cutout duration by 30-40 milliseconds. It will help. FYI, generally, this is a try-and-test setting.

BMW gave me a refund for my QS because I proved on the dyno that it didn't work at high RPMs - nor did their demo bike. They said it wasn't up to the speeds I was using it at and gave me a full refund as well as leaving the unit on the bike.
I bought an HM version for the same money and no problems since.
Thing is most BM dealers don't know one end of a dyno from the other and will not have used one for diagnosis before. But the fact is that if you have a problem with the bike whether at 160mph or at 20mph, they need to be able to diagnose and fix it. Most of their other bikes are road-bikes and have problems at road-speeds, but they are selling a superbike now so need to step up. My dealer was good and stumped up for dyno time over two days and they used both my bike and theirs. They swapped out ECUs, QS units, micro-switches, levers, got BMW tech in UK and Germany involved. Nothing worked and they concluded the design was not up to track speeds.

My shifter works fine in high RPMS >12000.The only time that it does not work is when the traction is been engaged, and that is normal. Its not the best shifter I have tried but for the moment it does the job fine.
