Default Steering Damper Loose?

On a stock setup, is the steering damper supposed to be floppy loose under the triple? Hard to see much under the triple, but the damper body appears to mount in a rubber bushing with a ton of play, allowing the damper to flop around a LOT. Is this normal or do I perhaps have something loose with my mounting?

Sounds like you have something loose Mark. It shouldn't be flopping around like what it sounds it's doing. I've got the Bitubo on mine, but the mounting setup is similar/same. No floppage.

I haven't really fiddled with mine, but I was at the local dealer the other day and on the new zx10 the ohlins dampner on top of the tree flops around. It looks to me like all the movement is there due to all the pivot points and is normal. I'll have to try and fiddle with mine when I get home.

There is some play on the Damper, or pivot side bottom of shock. check the bolt to the damper if it's tight all should be fine.

I think I'm going to take the plastic shield off below the bottom triple and have a look at the mount.
