what size spools do the bmw take 6, 8, or 10?

8mm But it requires a spacer, I recommend woodcraft spool, They have the spacer built in to the spool, no wear using a pitbull stand on them. Here the Link.

thanks why does it need a spacer ?

If you look at the swing arm there is a Notch where the bolt hole is. The spacer makes it flush.
