Default Dyno Blues

Well put the Race system Akrapociv exhaust on the bike with the TI Shorty Muffler......looks and sounds awesome.

Had Tricky Rick from BMW Escondido get me a Power Commander and his brother CJ installed it and ran the bike over to the Dyno and could only eek out a 173 hp.

CJ says he's Dyno'd 3 other stock S 1000 rr on this particular Dyno and he's gotten consistent 180hp results on all three.

He's gonna try and tweek things a bit tomorrow and see if we can't get that number up....I guess the 200hp result that I was looking for isn't gonna happen.

What dyno was it at it? Lee's?

There are some bikes that make in the 170-175 range. It's like clockwork, no one has ever been able to figure out what causes it, the bike either makes 180-185 or 170-175. Never fails.

My stock bike made 173.
With the Austin Racing exhaust with PC made 193
With the Full Akro / PC made 190.
Same bike and same Dyno.

Default Yep

I'm not sure where CJ is Dyno'ing the Bike nor what kinda Dyno. I do know that he told me the Dyno was having "Issues" and they were working on getting that fixed and thats why I don't have any solid numbers right now.

Personnaly I'm kinda pissed at the variations in RWHP results. Shouldn't these bikes be coming out pretty consistent in regard to RWHP from the factory ?

Honestly, it's never been really an issue with me prior to this bike. But I did buy this BMW based upon Manufacturer representations and Bike Shoot-out results.

Maybe a numbers merely a number and performance and rider skill is ALL that really matters. On the other hand, I would like to HONESTLY say my bike is a 200 hp bike.......

But then again.....I could be wrong.

Default ALSO

I did talk to Nick over at Akrapovic America and they did NOT do a DYNO test on the S 1000 rr with the Race exhaust and then Shorty Ti Can.....so he wasn't able give me any numbers from them......

He said they want to do it.....just haven't......odd.

I wonder if Yoshimura will test there full system before selling it to the public ?

Akapovic USA is not Akrapovic. All the pipes are extensively tested and the results published on the Akrapovic website. The retailers in the USA simply sell what is produced in Slovenia.

As for your bikes dyno numbers, they are consistant. $5 to a pinch of sh1t says if you take it to another dyno it will be similar to the others.

N.

Default OK

Well what Nick Ianniti told me was the Race Header and the Shorty TI were NOT dyno'd due to the fact that the s 1000 rr had left there factory prior to this configuration ....which was originally requested by the "Japanese" and when the other Markets saw this configuration they (like me) wanted it too.

So No Factory Dyno testing on the Race system header with the Shorty Ti configuration....if I'm wrong then you have info that Nick Ianniti at Akrapovic USA doesn't know about.

And if thats the case....please post the Dyno test figures for this configuration I would really like to see it.

174 is about what all the US Magazines are getting. If your getting 173 with a pipe and PC, there has been others complaining of the same thing with that Akra set up your getting. Apparently BMW really knows how to build a stock exhaust.

I would say there is NOTHING wrong with your bike. The US Magazine bikes (Japs included) typically test higher dyno numbers than what the rest of us buy from the dealers anyway.

Use to be an old saying, there is 2 types of Horsepower, California Magazine Horsepower, and the horsepower the rest of us get.

I know where your disappointment is coming from. People like Brocks, Chris Peris and Dynojet's develpment bike with early release bikes making 196+ at the wheel stock. You was hoping to add a pipe and PC to 196+ and get 200. Aint happening to the actual end buyer like you and me who buy from the local dealer.

The S1000RR with 173 at the wheel is a FANTASTIC bike, go ride it and enjoy it. Nothing wrong with it. This is just how it is. This is how its always been since Dynojet released their first model dyno DJ 100 back in 1990. Nothing has changed.

200 is easy, I'm up to 218.

Some bikes are making 10+ hp less, it's a fact, I've seen new bikes from the dealer do their 600 mile and then roll on the same dyno in sequence and turn 173 then 183, two different bikes, both around 1000 miles and bone stock, back to back.

It's probably a valvetrain issue. It's not ECU though, we swapped ECU's from the 183 bike to the 173 and it stayed the same.

Could be rings I guess?
